That's why we've only won three flags since 1936!

what about the flipside? If he comes out and blitzes and, funnily enough, destroys our shit midfield and whoever else, then what? Still think the club did a brilliant job not taking him with a PSD pick?rocketronnie wrote:Fall on their swords? Personally I hope whoever gets him now has a great season and that Benny goes close to winning a Brownlow. Then maybe one or two people at the club will fall on their swords.
What was Worsfold's words again? "You've f___d this club, you little c___t!" wasn't it? That wasn't said for laughs. That wasn't said just about Cousin's own drug use, it was about his influence in the club and the results of that. If there is any possibility that all is not what it seems then the club is right to do what it has done. And Christine Nixon? Well Mullet's neanderthals might not like her but she's done alright IMHO. Cousins had (has?) some very dubious associates in WA, and perhaps if you want intelligence regarding such people, then the police commissioner is as good as any to go to. You don't know what that meeting was about but as usual you try to give it an agenda laden negative spin.
And perhaps you'd be happier if he went to Hawthorn?Personally I hope whoever gets him now has a great season and that Benny goes close to winning a Brownlow.

I've been thinking thats its about time you put up or shut up. You want to get rid of Eddie and the Board... well name their replacements. Let's hear about your alternative board and their strengths and their plans to fix our club rather than this constant carping about the current board. I'm assuming here you've actually thought deeply enough to have an alternative President and Board to name. So lets hear all about them....jack_spain wrote:I seriously wonder how a decision made long ago when I was a kid has caused me so much pain. The decision is the correct one?
Just one question for everyone: What if our young blokes DON'T take their career to the next level? I can see Hawthorn winning two or three more flags with their current team, Geelong maybe another one, and I reckon the Scum will get one before we ever do again.
We all whinge like moaning little bitches and consider slashing our wrists, yes?
When I see what loyal lackeys so many people are on Nick's ("My footy club right or wrong!") I just shake my head. Change is a necessary part of life, but so many Collingwood supporters just put up with whatever spin is regurgitated from the LC.

How many 31 year olds who haven't played or trained properly for twelve months can do what you say? I think you are overstating his influence and his capability of sustaining his form if he does start well. There's been a lot of cargo cult type hype about Cousins' capabilities on this board, a lot of it unfounded and untested. I doubt what he did a few years ago will be replicated again. And its good to see that you hold our developing players in such high regard that your refer to them as "our shit midfield" Cousins is a short term quick fix. As other posters have said, there is little likelihood that he would have much influence on our future premiership chances when our current developing group are in their prime...dids_04 wrote:what about the flipside? That's rubbish. He was performing sensationally in 2007 when he returned. How long ago was that? Put it this way, had he not done a hammy in that final, we would not have won the following week. He hasn't played for 12 months, not the 'years' people seem to be claiming. We seriously have short memories around here.rocketronnie wrote:I doubt what he did a few years ago will be replicated again.dids_04 wrote:what about the flipside? Not to mention that his ability to train like a freak and his ball winning ability might be of benefit to Pendlebury, Thomas etc and show/teach them a thing or two. They are in need of some guidance down there in the midfield.
He is worth the risk. Definetly. This is a 'brand' decision and it disgusts me for a football club to do that. In all seriousness, if he performs like an elite player again, how will you feel? Lets say injury free and dominates certain games......

To me the question is whether if he does start well, will he be able to sustain it, if he hasn't played or even trained properly for twelve months?, as I said above. The key word here is sustain. He played like a train for a small amount of games last time he came back and then broke down because his body couldn't stand the strain he was putting on it. Given his preparation is once again inadequate, what's the chances of that happening again?dids_04 wrote:That's rubbish. He was performing sensationally in 2007 when he returned. I will feel just the same as the other 15 clubs supporters.
Take a look at some of the statements being made now that its open Collingwood are not interested in Cousins.. one being that his manager said Ben has never said he prefered Collingwood
I have a lazy eye and I think it is now spreading throughout the rest of my body

Either way it's a win- win situation for the " I told you so" mob
IF he goes to another club - stays clean and plays well - "told ya we should have got him" - even though the outcome may have been different if he was in black and white
If he goes to another club and either slips up or is constantly injured - " told ya we were right not to get him" - even though the outcome may have been different if he was in black and white
I can't help thinking the decision was related to income - sponsorship dollars
We lost the TAC because of player behaviour - which in many eyes was a good thing - BUT it was a lot of cash
Who knows how much work Ed and Co may have had to put in to placate sponsors after the " driving Miss Didsy" nightmares
We have lost a lot of serious cash with the Beach Hotel fiasco
The current financial woes may not only impact on the ability of people to renew memberships - especially high priced memberships like Legends but on the amount of cash companies can spend on sponsorship.
We don't run on skeleton staff in the football dept and taking the team to Arizona ain't cheap either!

No great loss..... was never going to win us the flag as only has 2 years left?.....would have been good to see "the cuz" going around in the black and white, but at what cost?.... those who run the club are there to do just that and if that is what they come up with, so be it...fair call I say.... No hope of getting ROK as he will stay with the swans and our pick will be to late anyway.....so bring on the draft and lets all get over "poorBen" and ROK.
B.U.M.S ROCK...That's Ballarat United Magpies Supporters.....Long trip but even longer hangovers!

Great to see a statement from the club reiterating its direction. There definitely hasn't been enough of this in recent times. I don't expect a statement on every second issue that arises, but the club has a duty to communicate with its constituents and will only benefit from doing this more often.Morrigu wrote:Statement from Pert to the members on the website

If Didak (for example) plays up again, the club looks bad as it keeps giving him chances.
If Cousins plays up, SO WHAT! We gave him a chance and it didnt work. Doesnt reflect poorly on the club, reflects on Cousins.
So lets see now ...
Best Case: Cousins plays 2 or 3 seasons and is an absolute gun
Worst case: Pays crap, falls back into addiction, and we have to cut him loose. We loose a preseason pick we probably wouldnt have used anyway.

Geez, YET another lost opportunity to add to the likes of Quinlan, Locket, Gheric, Nick Stevens etc etc etc.
Piss poor effort by the pies. We NEED talented experience after the recent losses of Bucks, Wakes, Clements, Burns, Holland etc etc. The team we have now might qualify for the bloody under 23's soon!!
Oh well, we MIGHT get to see another flag in our time......................!! At least I can treasure 1990!!!

No, worst case scenario, Cousins f*cks up and takes other players with him.Lone Ranger wrote:If Didak (for example) plays up again, the club looks bad as it keeps giving him chances.

Cousins has shown that he is a leader of men - even when he is off his face. That is a plus on the football field but it is a very big minus when he is out of control, under the influence and hanging around with some of the worst scum in Western Australia.
Some of our best players have shown that they are easily lead off the field and can be encouraged to get into trouble. That is partly why we cleared Tarrant, so that the next time that he got into trouble (and there was a next time) he wouldn't be taking Ben Johnson and some other players with him.
The worst case scenario is not that Cousins goes back to his old ways and has to be sacked. The worst case scenario is that Cousins goes back to his old ways and takes Didak, Heath Shaw, Ben Johnson and others with him.
