Why are most people dweeling on the negative of missing Cuz - I would prefer to think the Club has done its due dilligence and found that was not right for the Pies.
Don't forget he has not been re registered by the AFL so he is still an
unknown.
Any good business works with the knowns - not the unknowns.
I would much rather look forward to the draft with 4 picks inside the top 50, moving on of R.Shaw and gaining Corrie.
Those are all knowns and better than we did last year.

Sanctimonious jerk, now we have a self appointed "policeman" on Nicks doing his duty and weeding out the bad apples. Quick people to get on his "a list" better start towing the line.......Alec. J. Alec, with all due respect,i dont think being critical of our great club,in a constructive manner,is at all bad.Just because people like jack, dids 4,and yes,me,do slam the Clubat times,,does NOT mean we love it any less than you.
Healthy critisims is a good thing,it keeps the club on its toes,if i was a head honcho at Pieland I would EXPECT to be slammed,if i made balls ups and stuffed up.Missing Cousins may be the good thing, but if it isnt, and he stars at the saints,we are going to look like damn fools. We missed out on Lockett thru some dumbo on the committee, and we missed out on Quinlan too years ago, that cost us the 79 flag.Never accept the line the "Club knows best,no matter what",that is as blind faith as the german people had, believing in Hitler regardless of what he did,and look what happened to Germany
I have no doubt the club could/should do somethings better, but all I see on these boards is a huge bitch fest.
Don't get me wrong, there are some brilliant posters here, who post well thought out topics/issues (nomadjack, jmcp, madness, magpiegreg, david, sherriffe, joffa, Dr Alf, Morague(sp?), rocketronnie, pied piper, woftam, nulla etc etc)
These people post real issues not just whinging, whining bullshit.
Plus there is another group who come here with an agenda to do as much damage as possible to the Club, it is this group I detest.
If people think they can just get on here and spew vitriol and hatred without any comeback from reasoned posters they are wrong.
I for one will attack them and show them up for what they really are at every opportunity.
But yes, constructive criticism is not only good it is necessary

Ha ha that's funny.Sanctimonious jerk
What is even funnier is that Frank will have to google it to work out what it means.
All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

So you can't find a quote?daicos35 wrote:I would expect it would be fair for people to think "getting Ben" was on the agenda when PI's were hired and members of the football dept were making trips to Perth. I dunno Al, you don't seem to have much room in your day for anyone who liked the idea of dreaming about a fit Ben playing for us, but it's not like Perty said, we never wanted Ben.Alec. J. Can you show me just one quote from the club that said anything about "getting Ben".
Clubs are made of people, and they come from all walks of life and backgrounds. Their collective personalities and contributions combine because they're part of a club. Me, I like reading their posts on this site, some people whose posts I look out for have written their views in the for and against on this issue. I'd be completely stunned if our president wasn't understanding and welcoming of their need to express their views here on "getting Ben". They only want what they think is best for Collingwood, based on what they know, not a crime when it comes to floreat pica.
We do know where the club leaders see our progress now and what our strategy is going forward, building a premiership team with more young talent. I'm happy with that, but I was happy to defend the club's interest in Ben while it was intimated.
I thought not

And to be fair to Cousins himself,he did say on GF day that he is a recovering addict, that it is hard, and that he was not out of the woods yet,and "could slip back"-he was totally honest then.Drug addiction, and my family has been touched by it,is a shocking thing, its a bastard of a thing that has you by the balls. It CAN be beaten, but its very, very tough-this is where we should have supported Ben,shown faith, and if we could have helped him get clean,he would have repaid us in spades on the field.nomadjack wrote:This is getting ridiculous. Why is it that the only time a lot of people on here choose to believe the media is when it fits in with their own preconcieved ideas and perceptions?
Where is the evidence that anything Nixon said was the final deciding reason we chose not to draft Cousins? People from the club have consistently said all the way through this debate that there was a lot of water to pass under the bridge before a decision was made either way on Cousins. The same people would have constantly been evaluating whether or not he was worth the risk based on evidence collected. Even as recently as the past two weeks there have been posts on here suggesting that the decision-makers at the club were divided and that there had been suggestions that Ben was struggling as many addicts do to beat their addiction.
Cousins is a recovering drug addict who has been out of the game for two years. If you're surprised that we didn't pick him up maybe you should have a look at your own unrealistic preconceptions and have a think about what they were based on. I don't remember the club ever saying Cousins was a definite for us next year. Beat yourself up about it not the club.
Our ineptitude and dithering, has cost us dearly,it may well haunt us for a long time.

With 5 picks in the National Draft, a few rookie selections as well...what was wrong with picking up Ben Cousins in the PSD?
Its great to invest in youth...you have to these days. But there is also nothing wrong in taking a proven champion of the game.
If he mucks up...i fail to see how that is Collingwood's fault. We'd be the one offering him a 2nd chance...its up to him how he responds to that.
If he mucks up again...simply sack him...then and there on the spot. It's not that hard.
If he is causing problems within the club....sack him then and there on the spot.
It's not that hard.
What is hard is knowing full well that we will come 8th again in 2009. We will be going in with exactly the same top 22 that you can punch holes right through.
This is not a list capable of winning a flag. 8th place here we come.
If we wanted to invest in youth, then we had to finish lower on the ladder. A bunch of pick 11's is not going to win you a flag.
In recent years we have had pick 10,14 and 11. We managed to get pick 8 through a trade. We needed more top 5 picks in that time if we were going to go upon a youth policy.
The only reason we our list is strong is because Hine is a fantastic recruiter.
Ben Cousins was a no brainer. He should've been in black and white in 09.
Fricken hell Collingwood.
