Who should stay and who should go?

Post by George M »

Taking a good look at our list, this is how i think it should be broken down.

MUST DELIST:
Wild- we all know why
Gardiner- has no idea how to play, and never will
Godden- not good enough
Patterson- too old, too many mistakes
Raso- does not have enough going for him
Smith- should have gone last year
Venebles- not up to it
McDonald- not the worst, does add depth to list, but enough is enough

TRADE or DELIST
Watson- finished here, may play well elsewhere
Crow- adds depth to list, but losing pace and best is behind him

TRADE ONLY FOR GREAT DEAL:
Williams- Only for a star to come to collingwood.
Wasley- will never learn to kick, we could get something for him.
Tuckey- if only he could kick, and had smarts.
Fuller- if anyone will take him.
Shauble- Good character, resonable mark...just not enough.

The rest should stay on the list, including Richardson. Of the rookies, Manfield should be lifted to the senior list, and the rest should go. Hopefully Judkins does better with his rookie draft this year.

I think you got most of em right there George

Wild, Raso, Gardiner, Smith, Venebales and McDonald all must go. But i think Patterson and Godden have given enough not to be dumped

We will try to trade everyone who we don't want but if we can't Crow, Watson, Tuckey, Fuller and Tape may also be delisted.

And if we can get a decent big man then Richardson can pack his bags too.

How many go will depend on the trades but with our poor showing this year and the depth of this years draft we should take as many as 7 or 8 players in the draft.

I reckon you're being as bit hasty with Gardiner, what we've gotta remember is that any of the young guys with a bit of height, including Kinnear, Tuckey, and Gardiner have been thrown into a key position which is obviously a big ask.

Most Key position guys don't mature straight away (there have been a few exceptions recently though), so you either give them time or you get rid of 'em and get ready made guys.

At the very least Gardiner is a trade as I seem to recall a few fleeting patches of talent during the year, particularly in the pre-season game v the Swans in Canberra.

OK My thoughts on Delisting and Best 22.

F G.Brown S.Rocca G. Freeborn
HF M.Michael A.Rocca C.Tarrent
C P.Wiliams N.Buckley T.Lane
HB S.Burns A.Schuable J.Wasly
B G.Crosica S.Presti P.Licura
Rk D.Monkhorst R.Betheras C.King
Int M.Richardson P.Orchard J.Tape N.Davis
Emerg S.Watson, A.MacDonald S.Crow T.llockyer

(pherhaps the forward line to tall? put licura up there, or jacotine? and llockyer to back pocket? Goden for a short mongrel in backline?? swap Tape for Tarkyn Llockyer ?)

Now thats my best team on this years form. The rest of the list
(development) Gardiner, Tuckey, Kinnear
(development) Oborn, Scotland, Adkins, Jacotine
(borderline) Patterson, Olerenshaw, fuller, Smith, Veanables, Raso, Godden.
(Gone) Walker, Wild.

I'd say that Godden and Olerenshaw (last cuple games) have shown enough to be kept while fuller, raso, smith and Veanables haven't had much of a chance.

It's how you veiw McDonald, Crow, Watson are they really likely to part of our best 22? I think all three would be luckly to survibe add patterson and that's around 6.

I know Richardson is much maligned here but you need a second ruck option (gardiner, smith haven't there yet may be never ) and he is probably our third best tall defender (against veaables) Anthony Rocca could do better at CHB and around the same in the ruck, but I Like him at CHF.

lockyer would undoutedly start on the field somewhere next year. i wouldn't be surprised if some of our draft picks make the best 22 next year; throw a couple of traded guns into that lineup as well. and malthouse will be in the coaches box - always handy. very very pleased to see wazza on a HBF.
