I said after watching the NAB cup (when we actually played well) that Reid would never make it as a player, and people were saying rubbish like he'd be 200 gamer and a star.Well today confirmed that he bloody well wont be.
He's timid, doesn't present, can't read play, has weak hands and can't kick to save himself.
I know he's young but that excuse can't last much longer as he was a top 10 pick and is in his 3rd year but hasn't even shown a glimpse of potential imo.
We'll be filing him under wasted first round draft picks alongside Cole,Egan,Morrison and Roach I'm afraid.
i always knew reid couldn't play at afl level. the goal he kicked floated through the goals about 30 out. then he kicks a point 20 metres out. the ONLY thing he does at lexus in the gym is do weights for his upper body. his legs are that skinny its not funny

Yes I've seen him play a few in the VFL.
He wins the ball in the air well, in fact he wins most 50/50's but his foot skills are poor. Ridiculous to write him off at 20 years old.

He was in decent form down back in the VFL , getting alot of ball and delivering flat , non spinning passes accurately most of the time.
Clearly has struggled with the step up , he just hasn't shown many glimpses. Had a good debut , and beat Waite in the first half against Carlton last year as a lead up half forward. But apart from that it has been few and far between.
"Are you an angry man? Are you envious? Do you get envious? I have competition in me. I want no one else to succeed. I hate most people. At times, I look at people and I see nothing worth liking. "
A coach who doesn't play him forward for 2 years, then decides to make him into a CHB this year, only to expect him to play forward again today.
Also we could have a young Carey in our forward line and it wouldn't make a difference the way we structure up there, time and again Reid was often up against 2 or 3 opponents today. No chance under those odds.
Still another preseason away from having the required bulk in his lower half to be able to hold his ground in marking contests.
We were all telling each other that we'll have to be patient and give Reid a number of years to develop when we drafted him as a skinny underage kpp. Apparently this patience runs out before the kid has even turned 20.
He obviously has talent to work with and has potential to be a very mobile CHB. Definitely worth persisting with throughout the next few compromised drafts.
It makes me laugh when people say 'he doesn't do enough weights' (Thomas) or 'he does too much upper body weights' (Reid). Buttifant has them on a strict program with the assistance of sport scientists and strength/conditioning trainers. So the only limitation is what the human body can do, in its individuality.
This is the problem with drafting very young players in comparison to QFL/VFL etc listed players. You don't know how someone's maturity, physiology etc will develop. They are prospect 'athletes'. Anyone from WA will know that Natanui looks totally lost on the field.. like he maybe will never develop.. but has size, strength, pace. It's just a matter of waiting/hoping for it to all click together.
AFL wide drafting attitude: get an athlete, turn him into a footballer.. its much easier than getting a footballer and making their body capable of withstanding the rigours of AFL.
