That is when our realistic window will start from.

The only way to do that is to play the likes of Dawes from next season onwards. You bring Fevola in, and you stifle his development. Dawes must be given close to a full season next year.

Fev is the big fish we have all been waiting for he CAN TAKE US TO A FLAG! Come on Pies lets stop settling for mediocrity. I'm happy to dish off anyone to get the Fevolution to Collingwood. He has kicked nearly 200 goals in 44 games you would be crazy and ignorant to think he won't be a good fit for us.

Quite the opposite really. The reason Carlton may consider, and actually should, move him on is because they think he's negatively affecting their onfield performance, quite apart from his abhorrent off-field behaviour. Mark McClure has been of the opinion for some time, that no matter how good Fev is when he's on, Carlton will struggle to win a flag with him in the team. I agree, and feel they would have been best to trade him a year or two ago and go harder with their rebuild.

A Premiership team is much more about teamwork and team chemistry than one brilliant individual. Fevola has consistently demonstrated that he's simply incapable of playing for the team, and is far to often a liability on the field, particularly in big games.

What about the Ablett senior factor you ask? Is Fev so good that the bad can be ignored? Well, Carlton seem to have thought so over the years. But, I disagree. The game has changed. The importance of a single goal-kicking machine is diminishing, with a more even spread being favoured (look at this year's top 4 - Geelong have no dominant tall forward, the Saints no individual who kicks massive bags of goals, the Bulldogs pretty much have no tall forward and rely on an even spread of smaller players, Collingwood we know). This links in with the single most important aspect of modern footy - teamwork. It's always been important and emphasised by coaches, but there's no question that in the modern game with more movement and more intricate planning than ever before, that it's primacy has reached new heights. This makes the signing of Fev, at best, a risk, and given his age it's not one I'd even consider taking.

I think we've constructed a quality young list. I don't think we'd be smart to jeopardise it in hope of a quick fix. They rarely pay off, and I think the chances of a Fev move paying off are very small.

I dunno. Don't fancy those odds much. Marty Clarke returning is the most likely of them, and that ain't saying much. But if ..... no. Don't want him. He'd kick 100 goals in a career-best year, and cost us 150 in other ways, especially through breaking up the spirit of a great team that always works hard and always oes the hard, unrewarded things.

Send him to Freo. He'd look horribile in a Freo jumper, but possibly not quite as horrible as he does in the navy blue.

How would he cope in our forward line when he isn't the only option? How would the other players cope with him demanding the ball be kicked to him when there's 3 others in better positions?

The Swans makes sense, they are in the market for a replacement high-media-profile forward.

From a good source: Sydney are looking seriously at Fev, O'Keefe wants to be back in Melbourne and could be part of a 3 way deal.

Sydney want a higher pick than what the Bulldogs want to secure Hall. May see some serious haggling going on here to land Fev at Sydney, Hall at Doggies and O'Keefe at scum.

I am of the opinion that this trade period will be very busy. Interesting week coming up.

As for N.Brown...I believe the irish jigger(reid) is able to fill his spot.

Yeah but N.Brown's our future full back, and much more of a surety than our future CHB, Reid. I'd not be trading either unless we picked up a quality KPP from elsewhere and received quality for them - Fev doesn't count for me, too old, too erratic, too selfish.

Well, no meanness intended, but our multiple option forward line didn't exactly cover itself in glory each week, did it.
Sometimes it clicked, other times it was invisible, like 7 goals in a Prelim
So, maybe there is a spot for a selfish half-crazed goal kicking full forward afterall. I reckon go for him.

They often display behaviour off the field that reflects what they can be like on the field. Unpredictable, spontaneous, surprising, lairy, show offs, stand out in a crowd type. Have a look at a lot of the big bag goal kickers and you start to see what Mick is talking about. Hall, Fevola, Dunstall, BT, Carey, Ablett Snr, Capper...Jacko! There's a lot of outstanding shaky egos in that lot, yeah

1. Apply this theory all over the ground and connections between on and
off field behaviour are strong. Why have reliable, honest, hard working, team oriented defenders been so successful at coaching? (Sheeds, Mick, Bomber to name a few) Because they are reliable, honest hard working team oriented men to start with! Cousins - doesn't know when to stop, runs himself into the ground, wants to do it all..sounds like someone with a drug problem to me!

2. Eddiesmith... Did you not see Nick Maxwell improve as a footballer in 09? Have you not read interviews with him where he speaks clearly about setting himself the challenge of being a better footballer in the pre season, so that no one could accuse him of being a token leader at best? You discriminate against him in the most irritating ignorant manner. I think he has shut his doubters up, so, eddiesmith....SHUT UP!

3. This is my 1st post after having been a Nick's silent stalker for the past 3 or so years. Only just registered, so here goes!

Ps What do we expect from Fevola? Answer?... Fevola. Warts 'n all! It's whether we think we can manage his character and it's potential to white ant our player culture or not. I think Fevola stepping into our culture is a far different kettle of fish to him already being a big part of Carlton's culture and trying to turn it around. They helped foster who he is. Mick is one of the best at turning players around. Could be huge. One strike and you're out also a condition.

An excellent post, Fatui Attata! I don't agree about us recruiting Brendan Disaster ... er ... I mean Fevola, but well spoken. I can see that your three years of lurking has, like a good long apprenticeship in the reserves side, resulted in you being able to step straight in and look right at home.

I say this because no Nick's BBS member is really a proper and respected Nicks BBS member until he or she has told Eddiesmith that he is posting in an ignorant manner.
