Problem with site?

Post by swoop42 »

Anyone else having major trouble trying to access this site and upload posts this week?

Think I've just entered my login details for about the sixth time today.

Is the problem merely that the site can't cope with the amount of traffic?

I was about to ask the same question. It's been off and on here in HK but I thought it was a local thing. Yesterday it was very wonky.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

It has happened off and on throughout the year and you live with it but the last few days have driven me bonkers.

Personally I blame DTM and all his threads.

Yep. Same with me.

Often get a "page can't be found" message. Sometimes takes a few goes and at least 20-40 minutes to get back on.

A certain ex-poster told me when she left this site that people were leaving in droves, driven away by the moderators and that it was nowhere as busy as it used to be. I wish she'd told that to the servers that we keep outgrowing, they might have tried a bit harder.

Server load is the problem again and although traffic should drop back significantly after this week, we will move magpies.net again onto a server with a little more in reserve.

I know it's been a total pain in the arse for the last few days, but it's a perennial problem and it's one that can be fixed.

Thanks for sticking with it.

Done - moved to a new machine and everything should be back to normal... until it happens again.

Thanks Mike, I thought it was just me.

And as for people leaving here, look at the amount of traffic last week, now that was huge!
