i think the problem that exists with this, is not the commitment from Nick's faithful, but the fact that the club only gives 2 weeks notice before the deadline and no information is sent out prior to the that.

Good try Mel. Perhaps we can ascertain interest in about October this year for 2011 and then can decide the player etc once the notification from the club is received. And then, those that have given a commitment pay the money then.

If that's the case, the deadline seems too tight doesn't it.

What a pity it's fallen thru.

Totally agree with the deadline issue. Our Treasurer is MIA with the cheque book so we have missed the deadline. I've emailed the Club to say we'll be sponsoring Scotty Reed again and I see the minimum player went up another $70 this year.

On a side issue, the club is only meeting today to determine what will happen with Supporter Groups this year. I'm obviously hoping it's the same as last year as we've been collecting member fees since November last year (same as CFC).

I understand that the club have deadlines themselves, but I can't see how hard it would be to provide the infomation about sponsorship to last years sponsors or even post it on the website for people to download with more than 2 weeks notice, especially since we aren't talking about small change.

I know alot of sponsors are businesses, but what about private sponsors like Nicks,or the Sydney supporters group,or even people like Proud Pies?

The whole thing majorly sucks IMO

Disappointing.
For what it's worth, how short are we?
If we are close I would look at contributing further.
Can anyone contact the club & ask about the possibility of just a little more time for us to renew?
Thanks for all your efforts Mel.

apologies, i have been away for 3 weeks so totally missed this. I usually give $20 every year.

I think a few people are away at the moment. It's pretty hard to organise in Jan with so few people actually visiting footy forums.

Its a fantastic effort by those organising. But perhaps next year we should start looking into it in November. Forums are peaking because the draft is on.

We went through this same drama last year. At the risk of being told again to butt out, I make the following points:

The Jan 29 deadline is for sponsors to renew sponsorship of the same player from last year. After that date the player becomes available to other sponsors.
It is not a cutoff date for all sponsorship.
FFS, can you imagine the club knocking back a potential sponsor who turned up with their wallet open in Feb or March ?

I believe last year Nick's didn't have to pay the first half until March (after MargOz made a phone call to the club.) Perhaps similar action could be taken this year.

If Nick's wants to sponsor a player this season , it is NOT necessarily too late. Last year McCaffer had 3 of an allowed 5 sponsors.
Chances are he'll still be available to sponsor in a month's time.
If he isn't, others surely will be.

If it's still a possibility put me down for a $50 :D

Oh, and could someone PM me the relevant internet banking details for the money transfer. Thanks.

I had actually pm'd Mel last week and given her the email contact at the Club to see if the payment can be made later.

The issue isn't with the payment, the issue is with the commitment of people to get to the full amount required to sponsor.

It's all good and well for Mel to advise the club, by the deadline, that yes, we'll still continue to sponsor Player XYZ......but if she doesn't have the commitment from Nick's for the full amount by that time.......who's going to be the one out of pocket?

I've always wondered why people on 60+K a year require "sponsorship".
And the 60K is paid to players we haven't even heard of. Most are 150+K.

I will chip in $40 if it isn't too late.

With the other pledges we must be very close now?

That didnt happen. It was never going to happen. Mel said as much. So nobody would be out of pocket.
