Wellers has to come in if fit. Ditto Medhurst. I also think we may need two genuine KP backmen to combat mooney and hawkins, so Presti should come in, probably at the expense of Reid who is still a little light to play on the big forwards. Others to miss, if it was my call, would be Obree and Jack (maybe Caff or Leon).

Wellingham for O'Bree if fit.
Presti for N.Brown
Medders for Jack.

I think Reid will offer us a bit more flexibility than Nathan Brown for this match. However I realise & am mindful of the fact we need to get games into Browny & Reid. Therefore don't leave Brown in the two's for long.

I'm leaning towards N.Brown slightly over Reid as he's marginally bigger than Ben at this stage as well as being more in the Presti mould of defenders.

It's a toss of the coin decision really but against Geelong going for the player who plays a tighter brand of football rather than the attacking defender might be the safer option.

But you know the idea of playing all 3 does have some appeal with perhaps the surprise use of Reid as a swingman up forward if permissable.

I know he's being groomed as a CHB but he's a much more matured and assured player at AFL level now so if the circumstances of the game allowed or warranted it a stint in the forward line may cause the cats a few headaches instead of us the Collingwood supporters.

For all of Presti, N.Brown and Reid to play Anthony would probably be the unlucky one to make way for Simon.

You would then probably select Fraser over Wood as he will be used for longer periods on the ground and up forward than Cameron currently has been.

That then leaves you with the question of Wellingham and Medhurst.

If Sharrod is fit then he should come in IMO at the expense of O'Bree, Shane has been a good contributor over the last 2 weeks but Wellingham was terrific before being injured and offers us the same hardness at a contest as O'Bree but with extra flair and speed.

For Medhurst to resume then Macaffer would be the unlucky one to miss out.

I doubt we'll end up playing all 3 tall defenders but if we did and Sharrod and Paul were also fit then my scenario of how it might unfold seems the most obvious way.

In (if fit) Wellingham, Medhurst, Fraser, Presti
Out O'Bree, Anthony, Wood and N.Brown.

I stand by my call that Jaxon Barham will not play another senior game for Collingwood. If he does I will eat his game day socks.

In: Fraser, Medhurst
Out: Wood, Davis

If Medhurst isnt fit then bring in Tarks, no need for mass changes but Josh is fit and ready and Leon needs a break

leon wont be dropped yet, i agree with the rest of this post though, reids been better than brown but brown is better suited to the cats power fwds.

dont we need a 3rd tall defender

Ben Reid - Mooney
Nathan Brown - Hawkins
Prestigiacomo - Podsiadly

because we cant really afford to use harry O or Maxwell on talls

Harry O - Paul Chapman
Alan Toovey - Steve Johnson?
Heath Shaw - Matthew Stokes
Ben Johnson at times if Shannon Byrnes is down there..

I guess Maxwell could take Podsiadly or Mooney if we decide to go in with 2 tall defenders

Remember we haven't played Richmond yet!

I'm a chance for that game let alone Barham.

It's a consideration worth some thought.

Hawkins has been playing as the 2nd ruck option the last 2 weeks when not in the forward line(like Fraser) so no reason to expect anything different Friday night.

His one big asset is his size(197cm 100kg), he's huge and much to big for Maxwell(193cm 86kg) as is Mooney(195cm 99kg) and probably Pods(194cm 93kg) IMO, so where does that leave us?

You guessed it, having to consider playing all 3 tall defenders.

Hard to justify any changes but assuming there are no injuries then Wellers & Medhurst should get a recall. Fraser is close (according to MM). Who to omit is the major issue and in the scheme of things you'd almost assume a player in for his replacement which would end up being something like:

Fraser - Wood
Medhurst - Anthony
Wellingham - O'Bree.

Not advocating that any of these changes is necessary, just possible, and the logical change.

People calling for Presti's inclusion baffle me. Thought his game against Frankston was only so-so, particularly in light of the oposition. (Admitedly, that is only the perspective drawn from watching the match on TV and that can sometimes cloud your assessment.) Therefore you'd have to be suggesting that he's getting promoted purely on reputation and I'm not sure that's such a good thing when there is so much competition for senior places. And I am a long time huge supporter of Presti.

For all that, I'm just glad I'm not on the selection committee.

IN: Medhurst, Wellingham, Presti
OUT: McCaffer, Anthony, N.Brown
Can't drop Leon as he leads the AFL for tackles inside 50. Keeping Wood means Jolly can spend more time forward. Josh will have to wait. Need to get Presti in if any of their 3 talls are dominating he can shut them down. N.Brown and Presti are the stay at home, low possession players so we don't lose rebound by dropping N.Brown. We need Presti back in for games against Brown, Hall etc. McCaffer not doing much wrong but Wellers and Medhurst are stars if fit. Jack may be not needed as Jolly can be third tall inside 50 at times. We really need Wellers fit to add that touch of class to the middle.

How can we beat the cats Def. Mid . Forward.

Post by JakE_ »

COLLINGWOOD

Well its fair to say we need all of these things to beat them.

Mid: Ball, is a new Cats type player and by that i mean ( hard body player)

Ruck: Jolly , Wood lets hope we can win it that area to give our Midfeild
the best hope of winning and suppling our forwards.

Foll:
Well stoping Ling, Ablett, Chapman, Stokes and there other midfielders is vital if we are going to have a hope.

CHB/CHF: Cloke and Reid must take marks and play on quickly. We must take on the game out running the cats so if we can get Dick back
playing Gartlets role ( Carton )

Forwards: Jack , Dawes , Cloke , and other scrumers MUST BE Straight Shooters. And must hold ball in when it is in our forward 50*.

CATS

Well Forwards are better
Backs are better
but but Ruck and midfield is a lot quicker then theres.

We bet them in 08 with out Sidey , Reid , Jolly , ball and a few others.

So lets hope we win http://a.imagehost.org/0775/Ablett1.jpg

If we beat the Pussies I have it on good authority our Corio buddy Hiss will run naked down Mallop st Geelong, brandishing a bottle of bubbly and a massive Collingwood flag, closely followed by his Missus and Zulu neighbour, likewise attired, scaring the hell out of the good citizens of Sleepy Hollow.

We know what brings good teams to their knees, pressure, pressure and more pressure. When we kick points we have to stick to our task and make it really hard for them to come out of their defensive 50. We have to tighten up and give them nothing - how many goals do we give away each week from our own stupidity?? this friday we cannot afford too many of these cheap goals for the opposition.
They are going to come after us so we must go for them even harder....so cross your fingers that we remain switched on from the start and that Medhurst, Wellingham and Presti can somehow slot back in without too much disturbance to the team balance...good luck to the match committee or whoever picks the team. FWIW I think Dicky needs a bit more time in the VFL, there's no rush for now
