Aside from young Beams, i cannot think of one single positive for the Pies tonight. And our dear ol boundary line game style reared its head again, i thought we had got over that crap, notice the cats went up the guts all the way. The lid is firmly down now, the press will give us merry hell,-we deserve it-and its back to one week at a time. Just so long as we learn from this debacle, and act on it strongly. Next week now beckons, we must hit back hard.

Every game from now until we play Geelong again is irrelevent in terms of proving our worth. If we cannot beat Geelong (forget St.Kilda now, they won't make the finals) we cannot stake any claims on the premiership. How great does the win last week against Freo feel now after the crap we saw tonight? Takes the shine right off.

What the hell is this rubbish about Brown? Did very little wrong tonight, and only had one goal kicked on him. Certainly not the mistakes of some others in our defense. Was very good, overall better than Reid.
Leon wasn't great, but not too far from it.
O'Bree was poor, no question. Wouldn't have played if Medhurst was fit.
Wood was terrible, and was a bad selection choice - should have gone with L.Brown.

Spot on. I tipped him for All-Australian this year and now have egg on my face. I said a few weeks ago that Harry has to stop blogging and get back to basics, doing what we pay him to do - play footy!Monco Matt wrote:Harry O needs to re-focus on his footy and stop trying to solve the world's problems. .

Not such a bad thing. A win would have given us false confidence. We're not as good as Geelong, and need to know that, so we can work hard to improve. If we'd beaten them, like Carlton did, without being the better team, I don't think it would have done us much good.Piesnchess wrote:Aside from young Beams, i cannot think of one single positive for the Pies tonight. If anything we should have learnt a ton from that game, really exposed a few weaknesses in the side...
One particular player just doesn't seem interested..
I hope its rectified asap, as we cannot afford to go into finals carrying any passengers, these are the games we need to measure the players on.. Who failed and who stood up are all that counts when you're going up against the best...
So all in all it will make the club stronger minus the 4 points... Can we still win it this year, well its a long season and anything can happen, keep the faith, just hope the coaches are able to make the tough calls and position the club for a serious tilt..

Absolutely right - Leon is down on confidence as his attempt to pass the ball from inside 50 in the 2nd QTR showed. But I have to admitt there is no zip, zest or spark in him at present - just hope the flame is still flickering, and not burnt out.AN_Inkling wrote:Not a disaster tonight by any means. If we'd kicked three goals in the last I'd have been happy with the game. Going goalless again was a disappointment, especially as we dominated early. Still early in the season, and we've still got a few choices to make on our best 22.
Those saying Leon is finished? Sorry, way off. He's a little out of touch at the moment, but still definitely dangerous. Not as if we have a surfeit of skilled, quick, players. Wasn't much space up forward tonight with the way we moved it in.

The scary thing is that Geelong still has Ottens and Corey to come back in and were coming from playing on the Gabba surface and many may have been sore - the only consolation was that a few of their players looked even more sore after the game - wouldn't be surprised if Ablett, Chapman and Mooney pull up badly after this one.
But, to Collingwood. With Medhurst, Presti and Fraser back we will be better. Davis needs a rest. I felt sorry for Macaffer - at least he can stand up in a tackle and lay one that sticks! Some young guys will benefit from the big game situation (Sidey, Wellers, Reid, Brown and Dawes). Thought Toovey played a good game. Ball tried hard. Jolly has to stop giving away free kicks.
As a side we have to learn to not just bomb in hope into our forward 50, or atl east if we do, to kick it to the goal square. There was some uncharacteritsic play by Shaw (kicking), Maxwell (decisions) and few others not going in hard enough.
But the big story for Collingwood is that we have finally found a champion at heart. His name - Dayne Beams. Well done son.
As a team we can play a lot better. Some hard choices have to be made.

A little out of touch?? FFS he and a few others go missing when it counts and they bring their friggen party tricks out when we play the shit teams. It happens every year.
