Put a media ban on the players. Cloke has been a spud since the interview claiming he has the confidence to kick a goal from anywhere. Problem is, he isn't getting the ball to demonstrate his new found talent. Also, I am sure Jolly had a bigger leap in a Swans jersey. He seems planted to the ground in the middle

Considering we have Dick, Medhurst, and Davis all out at present, it isn't so surprising. Look for some spectacular crumb goals every week, starting around the beginning of July when Brad Dick returns to senior football.

Pathetic.Slow and soft. Our midfield was absolutely smashed by a very average Brisbane midfield. We have no small crumbing forwards. It's been a problem all year and yet it seems to be getting worse with each game now.Malthouse was outcoached by the uber bogan. An embarrassment all round.

To be honest, I wouldn't be too concerned if he didn't take up a new contract.
How is he supposed to when the kicks to him are absolute garbage!! Any time he has a one-on-one he is unstoppable! you obviously are stevie wonder, blind as a bat if you can't see that (rhyme intended)
LOL, you aint no charmer sunshine.

Cloke is as weak as piss, and your one-on-one comment is laughable, easy taking marks leading up the wing.

I almost picked the Lions in my tipping comp purely because of the Blockbuster Effect.
After watching most of the game it was pretty obvious we looked tired. When our engine room gets done then it puts enormous pressure on the backs who I thought did OK except for Shaw who must be close to getting a rest. Just looks very shaky and unsure.
Blockbuster after blockbuster takes a toll and tonight after half time we looked gawn. No point bagging the players and the coaching panel probably saw this loss coming.
One thing tonight has shown though is that kicking the ball long to a contest with a pack of players including Dawes and Anthony is just never going to work. For these guys to get their hands on it, our mids need to be on top.
Lets move on and plan for the Dogs who'll be smarting after their second rate effort last night.
In: Dick, Fraser
Out: Anthony, Wood

Our season has gone down hill since Harry O'Brien pretended to be a koala on national television

Since then we've generally played like koalas - sleepy, lazy, barely awake, craving only the gum leaves we can get without effort (or in our case - cheap kicks)

Enough blankets for the homeless, enough Premiership goals, enough re-assurances in the paper as though we're all idiots for worrying

Don't think - DO!

I'm so disgruntled - and up until 2 weeks ago I was relatively gruntled...
We just got nutted at the clearances...

If he finds a target, we have a shot to go in front, he kicks it straight to Staker, who then transfers the ball, Fev Goals, game over.

Nathan Brown should have played, we had one key defender tonight.
I would argue it was Clokes handball that missed its target.

Whilst I agree with the calls for solidarity, I think those calling for it should acknowledge that what we served up tonite was appalling.

Too often our players go to ground in the contest and we sorely miss the pace of leon, Dick and medhurst in the forward line to make a contest and keep the ball in.

After Staker's cheap shot on O'bree in the first quarter, no challenge was made to him- he should have been dealt with.

We picked the wrong side for the conditions- Lockyer in for either Anthony or dawes before the game and Leigh brown as 2nd ruck and spare defender would have made more sense.

We truly struggle when Heath Shaw plays poorly and some of our other backmen are too concerned with saving Patagonian rainforests or building brick buildings or meeting the Prez of the U.S. and not spending enough time getting a kick.

We did not try and change it up tonite and paid the penalty. There's nothing wrong with tagging guys (Johnson/Staker/Black/Power who get mega-possessions. Why not throw maxwell into the centre square to hit the packs hard.

I'm filthy losing games we should win and it's a fair indication of our mediocrity that we cant win games we should win with greater frequency.

ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^Jack? Pretty sure you called for Jack's inclusion, alongside Cloke and Dawes .

A poor loss. But not one I'm surprised by. We only needed to be a little off to lose, and we were. The Lions, and Brown in particular, were always going to be up for this one.

Still, our team selection was off. N.Brown should have played ahead of Reid. L.Brown certainly should have played ahead of Wood - do not understand how he is still playing as a second ruck. It does not work, and should have been dispensed with after one week.

Three tall forwards (and 2 rucks): I've been saying all along this is a big risk. Tonight we saw why (though, we saw the same thing against Freo, just didn't cost us the game). The Lions were able to rebound with ease, on each of the many occasions Anthony and Dawes (particularly Jack) dropped a mark and went to ground. One of Anthony or Dawes should play, not both.

Ball and O'Bree should not play in the same team - they both cost us dearly tonight with poor kicking, and we're just too slow with these two in the team. We were lacking for forwards, surely Lockyer should have been ahead of O'Bree.

We missed Leon. Even out of form, he's a far better option than three talls. There was a massive drop in forward pressure with him out of the team. No coincidence that Beams was very quiet either.

Not much positive from this game. We were smashed in the middle - can not believe how poor we were in the clearances all game - Wellingham's struggled since his return. This, along with lack of forward pressure was the main reason for the loss. We used the ball poorly, and our tall forwards, other than Cloke, could not mark anything (or weren't paid when they did ).

Best three players: Thomas (by a mile), Pendlebury, Didak. Not much worth mentioning after these

Absolutely pathetic performance against a half baked Brisbane outfit. Their backline is decimated & Brown & Fevola can hardy move. We have started to believe out own publicity, thinking we could just waltz up their for an easy win.

Black & Power showed us what real class mid-fielders are. And as for our backline, we were lucky Brown & Fevola weren't 100% fit.

O'Bree is officially gone, or at least, he should be. He & Ball cant play in the same side. Johnston was back to his old self - I'd thought he'd turned the corner. Anthony cannot play in the same forward line as Cloke & Dawes. One of them has to go.

The only ones who can hold thir heads up are Thomas, Pendlebury & Swann. The rest can walk home.

And what the hell is up with Jolly?

No one has mentioned that Maxwell had 2 poor turnovers that resulted in goals prior to 3/4 time.

Pies cannot win againts good teams with defenders who have poor disposal by foot - Shaw, Maxwell and Obrien compared to Scarlett, Milburn and Mackie.

Skills win you matches - but after all these years MM still cannot see it - well watch the match tape of the last two games (and the Saints game).

Pies will not be a better skilled team until the post MM era begins.

Dawes running under the ball - bad kicks or bad read?

Post by GoWoodsmen »

Did anyone else notice that he ran under all bar one ball that was kicked to him tonight? Wondering whether the kicks were off or if it is his reading of the ball that is off?

I remember reading a few years back when Alan Richardson was in charge of the development that after seeing this kind of thing they tested a few players eyes and discovered that one or two has short or long sightedness.

Would be interested to hear what others thing? I'm not a massive fan like some but I like the way he has offered another target up forward.

His pace worries me alot and has maybe contributed to the lack of forward pressure in the last two weeks.

Anyway over to you Pies fans...

Btw I don't think he should be dropped or anything... just something I noticed tonight.

He is a chest marking leading forward - like Plugger and Piggy.

THe guys up the field do not seem to know how to kick the ball low into the path of a leading forward.

Chris Dawes needs to stop running under the ball and making it easy for the defenders to spoil. If he slows down a bit and gets his hands out in front it will be much better.

Jack Anthony should go. We were too top heavy and too many times he went to ground when he should have out marked smaller opponents and they just ran the ball out with ease.

Swap O'Bree for Lockyer, not sure if there is much pace difference but Lockyer is a better presenter playing that half forward role.
