Oh yes they do. The AFL gave the Brions 3 and Sydney (on AFL life support) got given one. Next year they plan to ensure the Gold Coast get off to a cracking start.sportingtragic wrote: of course we would have loved a flag in that time but they dont give them away
Let's get it straight. We are simply the AFL's cash cow. They don't want us to win. And our club culture ensures that the AFL get their wish year after horrible year. It's Groundhog Day!!!

Can Darren Jolly jump ? And are we in a slump ?
FFS... he stands in the middle and watches the opposing ruckman jump and then hopes he misses it.
WTF is he trying to achieve, my Grandmother gets higher off the ground !!!
The only time he gets off the ground is when we play interstate, on the plane going up and the plane coming back.
Is he carrying an injury or did we recruit a dud?
And for the marking efforts tonight,Im sure they must have got at least 3 goals by our dropped mark turnovers, difference between winning and losing. ( jack was stiff with one but he out in another shocker )
It looks like we are in a bit of a slump... better now in May than September I guess. ( if we get there )
Hopefully by then Jolly might have take off by his own means and not Quantas.

Ben Johnson's kicking
Johnno's kicking has been a bit of a barometer for us so far this season. When it's on, we're on. He hits up targets, sets up numerous forward thrusts and is just so damn dangerous (see games again Hawthorn, Carlton, Essendon etc. but in particular the Melbourne game. Johnno was one of our best before he got injured and was really setting us up from the backline, then he got injured and we really struggled to run the lines and hit targets up forward).
But in the past 1.5 weeks, it has been woeful. I thought it wasn't bad in the first half last week, then like the rest of the team, went to shit in the second half. And tonight, it was way, way, way off. And not only that, his mind seems to be somewhere else. That running too far free kick against was deplorable. No pressure whatsoever.
The past 2 weeks and when he was injured really showed us how important he is to this side. I hope he can turn it around next week, because chances are, if he does, we will be back on the winner's list!

This rubbish about us losing games we expect to win, is rubbish. We've lost one this year, and really only a couple last year. Geelong and StKilda have both lost more than we have this season.
Tonight, we were up against a top eight caliber team, absolutely desperate to win after 5 losses and criticism of their star player. This was always a danger game. In the end, we were ahead for 90% of the night, but were pipped at the post. Ah well, that's footy, it happens.
We were below our best, and didn't quite get up, disappointing, but hardly faith-shaking stuff for those with a bit of fortitude. The soft supporters who start flinging abuse after the loss of a quarter, and fall apart after the loss of any game, on the other hand...

how do you drag yourself out of bed every morning with such cynicism?jack_spain wrote:Oh yes they do. The AFL gave the Brions 3 and Sydney (on AFL life support) got given one. 'the afl dont want us to win' - youre paranoid.
and i was rather obviously referring to opposition clubs, not the afl, in respect of premierships not being given away. theyre not easy to win for a reason

One poor game warrants a thread? A bit harsh. Was good against the Cats.
Many who kicked worse than Johnno tonight: Ball and O'Bree in particular.
The "running too far" free kick was tough. Took 13 steps, could easily have been allowed to pass.

It's official.
3 tall forwards aint going to work.
Both Dawes and Anthony have there limitations and there strengths but regardless neither will have a chance in hell with the forward setup we have had over the last 2 weeks and certainly not with the crap delivery of the ball into the f50 like tonight.
How about next week we just go back to basics and have one tall playing deep from the square as much as possible, the other (Cloke) starting around 30-40 metres out from goal as the CHF.

I was amazed how well he played after coming back from that injury after just one week. He is a bit of a barometer. I just can't understand why he runs the gauntlet when running with the ball. Surely he knows or has a bit of an idea of how far to run before bouncing or disposing of the ball??
Never say never!
