3 tall forwards aint going to work.

Both Dawes and Anthony have there limitations and there strengths but regardless neither will have a chance in hell with the forward setup we have had over the last 2 weeks and certainly not with the crap delivery of the ball into the f50 like tonight.

How about next week we just go back to basics and have one tall playing deep from the square as much as possible, the other (Cloke) starting around 30-40 metres out from goal as the CHF.
Very Well Said never play Dawes and JA in the Same Side, Only do it if Cloke was Injured

Hey sportingtragic - "why don't you go support another team?"
Come up with something original.

Remember this quote from the movie Talladega Nights? "If you're not 1st you're Last?" Whether the Pies finished 2nd (under Mick) or last (under Shaw) they still didn't come 1st. 1st is all that counts, that anyone remembers and what the history books record. 1st is what US magpie supporters want.

Great they turned around the club, and the club survived - tick.
They got 50,000 members and are financially sound - tick.
They made sound investment decisions in hotels - CROSS.
They have famous supporters from all around the world - Rob Lowe, Bob Geldof, John Travolta, Usain Bolt - CREEPY.
They got great talent to the club like Pavlich and Judd - CROSS.
They have become the Man Utd of AFL and won premierships - CROSS.

I hope you enjoy watching the GF replays of 2002 and 2003, because we came 2nd. Enjoy watching the Lions lift the cup and enjoy Voss's shit eating grin!
Most of my favourite bands start with "M" - Mars Volta, Mastodon, Megadeth, Metallica, Midnight Oil, Misfits...except King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard ~

The delivery was as bad as a bottom four side the entire midfield was bad.

Many who kicked worse than Johnno tonight: Ball and O'Bree in particular.

The "running too far" free kick was tough. Took 13 steps, could easily have been allowed to pass.
It's not really a criticism thread, just a thought that when he is kicking well, we seem to be looking much better and genereally have a win. Such has been the case so far this year.

Believe me, I am a massive fan of Johnno's, even during his disappointing years when everyone jumped off. I wore my #26 jumper proudly!

Oh yes they do. The AFL gave the Brions 3 and Sydney (on AFL life support) got given one. Next year they plan to ensure the Gold Coast get off to a cracking start.

Let's get it straight. We are simply the AFL's cash cow. They don't want us to win. And our club culture ensures that the AFL get their wish year after horrible year. It's Groundhog Day!!!
how do you drag yourself out of bed every morning with such cynicism?
'the afl dont want us to win' - youre paranoid.

and i was rather obviously referring to opposition clubs, not the afl, in respect of premierships not being given away. theyre not easy to win for a reason
:D A cynic is an idealist mugged by reality. Perhaps it is the fact that in my lifetime of 50 years Collingwood has stuffed up so many opportunities to win flags. At least if you barrack for a pathetic club you don't always hear the same silly refrain all over again, year after year, "Oh well, there's always next year."

Jack Elliott said it best, "Pig's arse!"

I'd rather be a cynic because then you will always be pleasantly surprised when we do breakthrough (like in 1990). Right now that great feeling seems a long way off. So I may as well revel in my cynical streak. Enjoy the fun of abject failure. Hey, that's something we're very good at down at Eddieland. :P

Maybe we were harsh on Leon.
The quicker Leon and Dicky can get back to full fitness the better and O'Bree and Anthony can chase kicks and go to ground and not chase in the VFL.
Nah, it was just his turn. It's done on a rotation basis on this site. That's the real reason that Leon's having a couple of weeks off, to allow supposed supporters an opportunity to attack the next player down the chain.

Yep. It's Anthony v Dawes.
I'd still have Dawes ahead of Jack, but will need to improve on his last few weeks. Dawes was pretty good early, no coincidence this was when our midfield was actually competing, but fell right away. Jack does seem to have that little bit of a game winning special touch. What? We lost tonight? But, I thought Jack took a mark and kicked a goal to put us in front, what happened after that? I missed the rest of the game.

Seems we go through Cloke far less when we have the three options too. He was still monstering his opponent tonight, but was in far too few contests. Whether this was good defense, poor presenting, or us taking other options, I'm unsure.
Well done boys!

I agree Johnson has been very good so far this season so we'll cut him some slack but his disposal efficiency for this game was a shocking 38%.

Luke Ball had 6 clangers in his total of 27 disposals, whilst O'Bree only touched it 13 times at 62% efficiency.

The team and the club are an embarrassment. Tonight shows the real collingwood for what it is. Prentenders with no heart, sometimes titillating sometimes attractive but ultimately disappointing.

I'll let you wallow in the mediocrity as some of you seem to accept it.
How quickly some forget.

Eddie arrived with the club on its knees, both on and off field. Wooden spooners and in serious debt. He went and got one of the top 3 coaches in the league at the time and set about creating a culture where success could be possible.

One finals appearance between 1992-2001. Then;

2002 gf loss to one the greatest vfl/afl teams in history
2003 gf loss - never in it, smashed
2006 elimination final v dogs
2007 prelim v cats after extra time win in perth, oh so close
2008 semi final v st kilda
2009 prelim v cats - shown to be the younger, weaker mob we are
2010 7-3, looking good for another finals campaign

still think this group is 2-3 yrs from a flag but dont pretend the last decade hasnt provided pies fans with some of the more exciting times in your life following this club - or did you prefer the tony shaw era of bottom six every year?

of course we would have loved a flag in that time but they dont give them away

eddie and MM have been fantastic for this club - not perfect by any means and sometimes frustrating as hell but still fantastic.

yes, it might be time for a change in both positions but it doesnt detract from them having taken a wooden spooner club with chronic debt playing at a derelict suburban ground to a regular finals contender, two time grand finalist, financially sound (generally...), with a young list playing out of the G as our home ground with 57000 members urging them on.

i say it every week - avg age/games experience of last 10 premiers is 26yrs/124games.

tonight we were 24/91 and even that is skewed higher than normal with presti coming back

'the team and club are an embarrasment.' if you actually believe that, youre supporting the wrong club and i encourage you to look elsewhere.
i hear richmond are in need.
+1 hear hear!

I tend to agree with inkling , we got smashed in the centre and at most clearances . The Brions were desperate for a win at their home ground , we lost by eight points , move on , plenty of room for improvement . Remember the season is a marathon not a sprint . We are heading in the right direction , patience.

Johnson's been one of our best all year. Tonight was his first poor one. Having seen Lockyer play off half-back against the Saints - yeah, BJ's miles ahead of him.

Lockyer v O'Bree as a half-forward though? Should have been an easy choice. Tarks all the way. Gotta hope he's simply not fit enough or something, as it's a bone-headed decision if not.
Agree, don't think he was good tonight but wouldn't call his game poor either.

dick

Post by gavin »

for those calling for dick to come in now,he is a way of getting back in i would think as he has only had 1 game in reserves unless he played today but he didnt do much last game and skills were pretty ordinairy so we will have to wait a bit for him.
our midfield is the problem we were chasing and tackling one after the other when we were winning now we dont tackle or chase or put any pressure on opponents midfield seem to let other teams own the midfield now
disgusted in losing tonight
well done daisy another good game come of age and as a consistant good player.
