Heresy. How can you say that about Harry? Reading many posters here I thought it was gospel that Harry was too caught up with wider social issues. Fancy that.raymond35 wrote:Watching from the amazing seats supplied by Northern Pie behind the goals, 2 things stood out:

Yeah I haven't understood the reasoning behind some of the comments made about Harry this season.AN_Inkling wrote:Harry was pretty good last night, and still has plenty of scope for improvement. No doubt that in the last few minutes, he was trying as hard as anyone to get us over the line.
Every week he's been physically imposing himself on the opposition, look at last night he and Brown were at it all night and Harry never took a backward step. He scraps for everything, has a never-say-die attitude, long accurate disposal, kicks clutch goals, very strong tackler (and they generally stick), runs all game, is excellent in the one-on-one duels, rare get's out muscled, etc.
Why am I beating around the bush. He's a f%cking good defender and all round player.
A Collingwood supporter since the egg was inseminated.
Harry is great just don't pull his hair. It makes him angry. Very angry.
On coaching the Pies.
I think Bucks is God but how long will it take some of the "delusional evangelical" preachers on this site to tear him apart when he doesn't coach to their expectations?
I question why would Bux want to take on the CFC job when he could retire to the lucrative media circuit and make a hell of a lot more for little effort.
I guess he is doing it because he has the support of the current coach and the current administration. Take that away and he might as well have taken up the Richmond job.
You are either with the current administration and coaches or you are not.
Bang on about how lucky they are to make a living out of football and just keep banging on about how unfortunate your life has been for the last 50 years.

Please don't use the Leon Davis excuse for Wellingham Thomsoc. He is over rated and not that good in my book and as I've said MANY times before, along with O'bree,is the worst disposer of a ball in our team.Last night backed up my thoughts. And I was there to see it.thompsoc wrote:Wellingham doesn't seem fit, The Game had a lot of similarities to the Cats game. Why Tarkyn Lockyer is not playing instead of O'bree, and Mc Caffer is totally beyond me and if Leroy Brown is not a better option than Anthony,Dawes and Wood then it's time to give it away. And make no mistake, when Josh is fit he MUST be straight back in.Wehave lost the last 2 games at the selection table and I just shake my head in utter disbelief when we continue to play these under acheiving spuds because they have "POTENTIAL" We won't win a flag anytime soon I fear.

Some key players got beaten on the night, and that forced changes that didn't work to our advantage. In the forward line, Patfull beat Cloke (as he has done before). And Anthony beat himself, again, by trying for contested marks rather than presenting for the footy (i.e. leading).
But more important was the backline. Heater got towelled, I think by Justin Sherman. And Reid was beaten all ends up by Jonathan Brown. Fair play; that was always a big ask for the young man, and if he's going to be our long-term centre half-back he needs to play on the best forwards.
But what that meant was that Presti - who was beating Fevola - had to move onto Brown. Once that happened we were in a bit of strife, because we don't have anyone other than Presti really capable of going with Fev, who is too quick on the lead and strong in the air. Maxwell isn't a great one-on-one player and though Presti at least contained Brown, Fev got off the chain.
Moreover, having to mind Fev robbed Maxwell of his ability to rebound off half-back. With Heater also being beaten, this essential part of our game was shut down. Harry O'Brien was very good - he saved us from getting a real hiding in the last quarter - but I doubt he would have done any better on Fevola.
Finally I'd like to the point to the fact that we had just 49 tackles tonight, well down on previous weeks - and Dane Swan and Alan Toovey had 19 of those tackles between them! The phrase "too much left to too few" comes to mind here - most of our boys just didn't work hard enough when they didn't have it.
The fact is, players play the game. The Lions won in key areas tonight, but they won it out on the ground, not in the stands.

Ah you have to love Eddieland supporters.
I can just see it now. We are in a dogfight with the Scum on the first half of this year's preliminary final to see who takes on Geelong for the flag. In the second half we absolutely cave in (like we did last year) and you'll all be on here defending the indefensible. In my worst nightmares the Scum then go on to win flag 17 the next week, leaving us languishing on 14 flags.
And you wonder why we spit the dummy when we have a gutless performance like last night.
[You'll notice we didn't bag the team for the loss against Geelong last week. But a loss to a weakened Brions was a sign that we still are too addicted to mediocrity at Eddieland to ever win a flag under the present regime.]

Reid should have gone to Fevola IMO.
Maxwell has shown time and again he can't compete one on one against big forwards.
Reid may have faired the same but at least we wouldn't have been robbed of Maxwells rebound.

Bingo. Its all very well wanting to want to take the responsibility as captain, but Maxwell is not a key position player, even against a player on one leg.swoop42 wrote: Reid should have gone to Fevola IMO.

Problem was the midfield tonight. Black, Power and Rich single handedly smacked our midfield. Ball was the only one who looked like winning a stoppage. Pendlebury was OK. Swan was used more across half back to generate run in the absence of Heath SHaw having any influence.
The 3 talls up forward did not work...and it will not work as long as there are 2 ruckmen as well. There was large chunks of the game where both ruckmen were also on the field.
If Davis and Medhurst are there, atleats you have some defensive pressure. But without them, it meant Didak and Thomas had to go forward...and they were perhaps our best midfielders to 3 quarter time. SO it was a bit loss to our midfield which was getting smacked.
Jolly dissapointed me. He is getting smacked in the ruck and his pressure is lazy.
Thomas, Macaffer, Presti, Pendlebury and Ball were good. Everyone else quite poor. Jonno is slipping a bit. May need a rest to regain his touch. He strikes me as the type who comes back well from a lay off...but can't string it together over 2 months.
Reid playing was a mistake. I called it all week that Reid would get smashed by Brown...and he did. Presti was forced to move over to Brown, and when he did Fev dominated.
Pretty dissapointing....but ultimately every side this year is having down patches. Even Geelong and Saints have had a few bad games. Doggies and Carlton are up and down.
So hopefully this is just our turn...and we bounce back quick. From here we can either fall apart together or re-galvanise. It's been a huge 2 months for us....so I think we are looking forward to the split round.
But we need 2 wins heading into the split round.

Regarding Wellingham does anyone think he is a selfish player sometimes?
Last night there was a passage of play in the 3rd qtr about the 20min mark and he was streaming forward on the wing and had Dids inside running alongside all alone approaching the 50 and Wellers decided to bomb it long deep into the pocket to Jack who was spoiled by Staker and the Lions swept it away. If he would have handballed inboard Dids would of surely slotted a sausage roll from just inside 50 on his preferred! The game was still in the balance at this stage.
Wellers makes some bizarre decisions sometimes and his disposal is ordinary at best.
Never disperse your focus unless absolutely necessary. Face one adversary at a time!
