jack_spain wrote:This is a serious question. I know he made a few good spoils, but it is fair to say he missed at least three spoils that resulted in Doggies'goals.

I don't think he gives enough and lacks the skill to beat players one-on-one. Presti had Hall's measure and then when he had to take Lake, who was moved to the forward line, Maxwell took Hall. Bingo - Hall gets three quickies.

Off field Maxwell handles himself brilliantly. Is he the Mike Gatting of footy?

Any thoughts?
if maxwell were not to be in the side who would be his replacement? he had a pretty ordinary game tonight but why are you so quick to pull the trigger?

i know stranger things have happened - like the destruction of the berlin wall, a black president of the usa, even a footy team in greater western sydney - but do yuo think there will ever be a skerrick of a chance that you could, just for once, not have something to pot after a collingwood win?
We got the four points. Leon made a good comeback. Medders got a run. Dale Thomas showed he is our best player this year. Leigh Brown was a big improvement on that spud Cam Wood. All good.

But if you think that form will win us the flag you are deluded.

Maxwell is a flanker at best, at worst he's Jason Cloke mk II, a loose player in defence who can't take a KPF. It's not Maxwell's fault he can't play on Hall, it's whoever made the choice to put him there. We've got Reid and Presti in the side and also Leigh Brown, all of whom can take a gorilla forward, Maxwell should NEVER be on Hall or Jono Brown he's a FLANKER who can spoil very well, but he'll never cut it body on body with a gorilla.

My take on the game was that the Pies had the Doggies covered easily for three quarters of the entire game, but then they went defensive.

Big mistake.

As soon as they did that the Doggies no longer had to be accountable for their opposite numbers and could run in packs and take their time delivering the ball.

All teams by now know the Doggies are an attacking team with a poor defensive attitude, so when you play them you play attacking football like the Bombers did the week before and the Pies did for the first three quarters.

Similarly the Bombers and the Pies both went defensive in their last quarters and in both games the Doggies mounted big comebacks only to fall just short. This failing was due to both the Bombers and the Pies reverting back to attacking football and THAT slowed the Doggies run, but couldn't completely stop it. Unfortunately once the Doggies get a big run on they're virtually impossible to stop because of their running power and high level of skill.

The Pies may have gone defensive for no other reason than because they ran out of steam in the last quarter, most likely due to the Gabba curse.

Either way I believe this was an excellent win given the loss to Geelong and then the very disappointing loss to the Lions must have had the players asking a few questions of themselves.

At the end of the day it was a great win that could have been better, but it gives the Pies a wonderful chance to build on their wins total and confidence in the coming weeks.

2 weeks ago Davis was being smashed by posters here - today its Maxwell.
This is the usual BS hysteria, and the silence from all the Davis critics that they were wrong about his value to the team is deafening.

Dogs were playing for their lives tonight, and EADE is not a Dud - he made some changes and again, as last year, it was too little too late.

Yes Maxwell got exposed a couple of times but as James Hird said he would love to see a stat for how often a maxwell rebound ends up in a goal for CFC - he thought it would be quite impressive.

Happy to take the view of champion over the critics here.

I keep coming back to the word perspective - many here need to get some.

That 50 ....w.t.f was that ? On tv they said it was for stepping over the mark but he was clearly walking backwards ? It astounds me that an umpire can confuse walking forwards with walking backwards ???

I decided at the last minute to buy a ticket - by that time I had to pay for a homegame (I'm an 11 game member) & ticketmaster said I could book & pay $23 or try my luck lining up for a ticket at the ground - couldn't be buggered lining up so bought a ticket.

We won, played all over the dogs, dominated except for the last qtr & won. Fantastic stuff. We were dominating the game & making errors. The attitude was back - for me that was the most important thing. We played some brilliant football at times & we pressured well when it counted when we won the game.

Yes the last qtr was one to forget but one to learn from. We look so much more dangerous with Leon, Medders & Didack playing. Even if one or two are down they are so dangerous it forces the opposition into errors with their presence & pressure. Leroy take a bow - he should have gone with Lake that cheating pri*k how do the umps miss his holding players down in a pack mark to take players out of the contest - its as obvious as Footscrays arrogance.

Mick really has it all over Eade at the moment - 2 wins from 2 starts this year against the arrogant Bulldogs. I hope Hudson goes - that's virtual but not quite a spear tackle (far be it from me to overstate it) that's f'n ridiculous - perhaps good in NRL but WTF.

We needed the win. Does anyone know a good cardiologist? If I don't have blood pressure problems I might be getting some sson with finishes like that. But we won & that's what count's. For me ther's no way this is a hollow victory. The score line flattered them in my view.

Fantastic stuff - pies you were that good to get that far in front that a very good team like Footscray with momentum & some umpie assistance were simply not good enough to beat the pies - especially so in an error prone last qtr by us.

No how to handle Green & Davey next week!

How many times do we have to hear this before somebody notices and does something about it? It is the exact truth.

I dont think its the fact Maxwell cant play on the big boys, its just that when he does he doesnt change his style..

his style being standing 10m in front of his opponant and running off at any chance.. of coarse his opponant will kick goals.. I just think that if he gets sent to a Barry Hall or Brendan Fevola that he needs to play a traditional lock down role and perhaps sacrifice his own game for the better of the team.. if he did this i believe he could be successful on these players

thoughts?

I'll take that.

Good win against a top side. Sure we took our foot off in the last quarter, but we found enough to hang on. Leroy was a great inclusion and Medhurst will be better for the run.

actually try this if the above don't work

http://spekyselector.webs.com/spekyv4.html

it's qtr by qtr. but download it first and if you want to watch on the TV instead of the puter, use ConvertXtoDVD to convert avi to DVD and watch on the TV. Well that's what I do ;)

Glad we got the 4 points and maybe a bit of cue in the rack. We seem to do it a lot against the dogs. I can remember Rnd 22 2002...

But, it seams putting Lake in the fwd seemed to work well for them and of Maxy letting a few go through him.

But yep, winners are grinners...

Bring in the Dees on a much needed 8 day break.
Go Pies !!!!
