Post by Donny »

The Aussie best ever team just about picks itself. Comments ?

A Gilchrist
M Waugh
R Ponting or Boon (prob. Ponting on fielding ability)
D Jones
S Waugh - captain
A Border - vice capt.
S O'Donnell
S Warne
C McDermott
D Lillee
G McGrath

12th. G Chappell

So, what is your best ever International team ? Then name your next best fieldsman as 12th. man. Should be interesting.

I wouldnt have Border in the best ever one day team. I reckon i would have Bevan ahead of him. Although i think Bevan has peaked and maybe on a downward spiral. However when at his best he was fantastic.

Yeah, JLC. Bevan could well be in there for Border but I gave AB the nod on his fielding, remembering players are selected at their best.

LOL, Fradam. I remember someone having a go at me for Victorian bias. Phanto would play for draws, wouldn't he?

Any thoughts about a best ever international team?

Maybe even more interesting would be a best ever rest of the world team to play the Oz best ever?

OK. I'll attempt a best ever rest of the world limited overs team.

Sachin Tendulkar
Desmond Haynes
Viv Richards
Javed Miandad
Clive Lloyd - captain
Andy Flower
Richard Hadlee
Shaun Pollock
Wasim Akram
Curtly Ambrose
Muttiah Muralitharan

12th. Roger Harper or Jonty Rhodes

It was hard to leave out players like Joel Garner, Mohammad Azharuddin, Kapil Dev, Brian Lara (soz Clokey), Imran Khan, Alan Donald, Arivinda DeSilva, Michael Holding, Jaques Kallis and others but there were only 11 spots.

Although three of the pace bowlers I selected are all-rounders, they were not included for this reason. Each one could hold his place on bowling ability alone.

I included Murali purely on his figures. He's not the only chucker going around, just the most blatant. As long he's allowed to play, I'll regard him as a bowler.

Interesting, Toolman. Why two keepers? Probably more to the point - neither field or bowl very well so where are you going to hide the one without the gloves?
