I wouldn't be writting off Reid yet he is a 19 yr old KPP who has all the tools to become a very good player, a lot of Reids problem is mental imo.
Accidently edited instead of quoting myself...

Well, I just wasted ~ 1 hour of works time reading the 8 pages of this thread. And what a pleasure!

I feel all warm and fuzzy! :)

But TBH, Reid still isn't the player I'd hoped. I thought he may be the next Buddy in his first year (2007). My opinion had lowered slightly in 2009. I think he'll eventually be a very good player. Maybe an AA and a potential top 50 player, but not top 5 of the comp. Although there is still time.

Anyone doubting his field kicking these days? Low, hard, flat, penetrating, accurate kicks. At least on his left. Haven't seen too many on the non-prefered.

Still a way to go for Reid though. But still very young for KPP. While playing good games now, he will still be susseptable to inconsistancy. KPP don't find consistancy till 23 or 24 (That's still 3-4 years away. Can you believe he is only ~20). If he keeps this steady trend of improvement, we should all be very happy with our No 8 draft choice.

I still hold hope for him as a leading type of CHF. Hey, JA is showing promise as a backman again in the VFL! Also Tarrant a CHB. So changes do happen.

Looking at the Tarrant trade now, we are clear winners. Especially now that Tarrant wants to leave Freo.

Should we list the shamed Nickster's names in one clear highlight post?

I'm glad your not director of recruiting!!!!!!

Todays Age has Tarrant quoted to say 2010 to be his last year (I just read the headline). So you'd swap a potential 10 year player for a washed up forward, come back flanker with 1 and a bit years left in him. I'm a Tarrant fan (the CFC version), but now glad we did what we did in 2006.

pffft. Reid is almost equivilant to a first year draftee KPP. FFS, He's done more than Jack Watts in 2009.

Jezz, I'm gunna love bringing this thread back in two years time to see so many of you eat your words!!!!

How can so many experts be wrong about this kid. So many of the coaches at CFC think this kid will be good. So many commentators of VFL & AFL say they reckon this kid has got the stuff to make it.
You didn't have to wait 2 years! :D
You were both wrong imo. Chopper is a potential star, but Taz has blossomed into one of the game's best full backs and has 3 more years in him imo.
I dunno Rudy, Reckon Taz is a little overrated at Freo. Everytime I see him, he gets done. Cloke absolutley towelled him up. But I don't see every Freo game either.

Taz has only been playing in the back line for three seasons ??? Basically he's still learning the position by doing on the job training.

At the moment his athleticism is keeping him in the contest and generally allowing him to triumph over less physically gifted opponents, where he struggles is against seasoned athletic forwards, such as Travis.

Taz learning the position wouldn't be a problem except that he's nearing the end of his career not starting it and the only player in our back line that is in a similar position (age wise) is Presti and I'll take Presti over Taz every day of the week.

On our back line, I think Collingwood are in the enviable position of having a very young group of players who would already be considered experienced backmen, and we have the added bonus of having one of the premier defenders in Presti for our current crop, plus the new breed coming through, to learn off.

All good at Pieland for the future :D :D :D

haha that's a nice bump. Quite happy with what I wrote in the first few pages....although at the time I was talking about his prospects as a forward.

The thing that people failed to realise was that Reid was incredibly young when recruited. Until he got his body to AFL size, he was always going to struggle. This is the first year he has been big enough to hold a spot...and he is coming very good.

A great piece of insight to move him down back as well.
There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

That would be a great result for us if he turns out to be in his class.

I have a lot of respect for Fletcher.

I can see the same thing. Worth all of pick 8 and then some. Looks the complete package down back. His form may go up and down as the season wears on but he is all class. Reads the play well, has closing speed, long penetrating kick. A little more bulk and I'd back his athleticism and footy smarts against some of the monster power forwards.

Haven't been so impressed with the football nous of a young Collingwood player since the emergence of Heath Shaw. This boy can really play football.

Quite happy with my foresight here. 8)
not one for grand statements, i think reid will be all-australian in the next few years.
I wouldn't argue with that, the question will be whether it will be as a forward or a back.
