Bevan - The Best Ever.
A sweeping statement?
I don't think so.
You can win a game by smashing an attck a part in a small time frame and wresting control of a match that way-but no player in the history of one day cricket has done this consistently.
None.
Michael Bevan however never ceases to amaze me. Time after time after time this man stands up and gets the job done.
Who is the most prized one day wicket every other country wants?
The answer is Bevan.
Sure, if you don't get Gilchrist early he will hurt-as per Hayden and Ponting, but apply the pressure-the real, 7 for 80 pressure-and we all know who we want at the crease.
I read in a thread around here somewhere that Bevan's batting is boring.
He has been in several of the most eciting finishes I have seen.
Andy Bichel was rightly given the Man of the Match the other night and good on him. What so often happens when Australia come from the grave to win a thriller is one individual in the team plays a blinder and that man-Bevan, happily guides the ship while that nameless (and always changeable) man plunders the opposition.
He is always there-and he is the best one day batsmen the world has ever seen.
Stroke wise- I would give that mantle to Tendulkar but Michael Bevan has secured once again my sheer admiration at his ability to do what he is told to do-win the game.
You're a legend Bev.
Ooh ahh is right there too.

Well said, SD.
Yes, there are two or three in this forum who only notice the 'dashers' and don't want Bevan (or Martyn) in the team because he's boring.
I was absolutely enthralled with our win against England, knowing it could be all but over, with each ball, if Bevo was dismissed.
A word about Bichel. He didn't 'plunder the opposition' - his innings was behind run-a-ball until he hit the six. Bevan was on run-a-ball right through his partnership with Bichel. Bic would have won his Man of the Match in any case, for his 7/20.

I'm a huge Bevo fan, but I don't think he's the best ever. That title should go to DEAN JONES (yes, "we love you cos you're a Victorian!")

Dean Jones was the innovator when it came to one day cricket. He batted at number three and faced the likes of Sir Richard Hadlee and Curtly Ambrose two of the best ever. Dean Jones took running between the wickets to a whole new level as well.
Secondly give any country a choice over whos wickets is more prized Tendulkar or Bevan and see what they say. Tendulkar is a genius and is the master batsman in both forms of the game.

See that's to big call in my book...
I right cricket players on how they perform in both tests and one dayers!!! In my book bevan never really stood out in the test area of the game.
But I do have to say he is a good one day player....

The finishes are exciting because he uses up so many balls. If he actually worked the singles early in his innings and rotated the strike the matches would be over earlier. Or is the worlds "best" one day batsman incapable of getting singles early in his innings...lol lol

Well said SD what a great post! Oh look JLC and twin will never get it so I don't even know why I bother! What was the point in Bevan rushing his innings the other day? So he could go out and Australia lose the game? I guess that's what you two were hoping for! There was no need to finish the game with four overs to spare! He took his time and was damn smart about it and ended up winning the game for us! How hard is that to understand? There are 50 overs so you can bloody use them not to try and finish the game with four overs to spare and risk losing the game! If you don't find it exciting Australia winning a game when it looked almost certain they were going to lose then you have problems!

What would Michael Slater do Mrs Slater ??
Scoring singles isnt exactly rushing....lol lol Its just a normal part of cricket rotating the strike.

Michael Slater is completely different to Bevan, he is an aggressive batsman who likes to score runs quicly and that's what I love about him! However sometimes he needs to take it easy a bit, for example if he wasn't in such a rush sometimes maybe he wouldn't have gone out the 8 times or whatever it is in the 90's and he could have more centuries to his name! You like twisting things around to suit you don't you JLC? Bevan won the game for Australia the other night so I don't care if he wasn't rotating the strike! WAKE UP HE WON THE GAME!

THE batsman are more likely to make an error with 10 runs to get off 4 balls.....lucky Bichel was there to save the day....
Bevan puts alot of faith in the tail....which is fine when they do the job....but he is the batsman....he would have looked mighty silly had Bichel gone out....

Yeah right you are dreaming miss slater. Bevan best hope of six runs would be running two and getting four over throws.
