JLC, PiesPremiers...
You naughty, naughty little boys.
Leave the gorgeous MissTarrant alone.
Now listen here lads.
As per the original post-the mention was regarding one day games. So the reference to test averages and performances is irrelevant. So there.
JLC, my lucid little friend, what is this about rotating the strike earlier in the innings...half the time that Bevan is at the crease, the side is being bombarded and are under siege by a maruding opposition bowler that is just lip smacking to smash their way through our tail.
Why on earth would Bev want Bichel, Lee, Gillespie or heaven forbid McGrath to face the bowling than himself?
By all means rotate the strike-particularly if we are 3 or four down only...but 8-130 and you want Bichel to face more balls?
Hmmm-strange man you are.
Bevan can take as much time as he likes, indeed any batsman in that situation, because he has to :
a) See off the bowler (particularly the ones doing the damage).
b) Get his eye in...plenty of time as you say (and remember most times wickets are the issue at this early stage not run rate).
c) Ensure the odd boundary is grabbed plus a good dose of twos...with a single near the end of the over.
I, and I suspect you boys as well, can't suggest that any of those three perogatives can be accomplished by Bevan's batting partners...who you JLC, are suggesting should have more of the strike???
And another furfy I saw written by you lads about Bevan being stranded at the crease with no batsmen left.
The last time that happened...er...wait...I can't remember if it even has...ahhhh that's right...your scenario was 'if' the other batsmen got out...hehhehheh
Eek.
And one last thing. He has single handedly won the past two ING Cups for NSW with centuries against all odds.
Oh... This too... Average? 55... Strike rate? 75...
Not bad for a man stuck at the crease as you say.
It's all opinion-but you could show a good hour of highlights where Bevo has featured in saving the game for Australia.
Clive Lloyd? Viv Richards? Haynes? Greenidge? Richardson?
Well-that side never were in danger like Australia had been in the past-and none of them stand out as a consistent pressure cooker saviour (they were too good to get into that position to start with).
He's just the best one day batsman when you throw all of the ingredients together.
I know you know it boys!
heh heh
Tally Ho!
Walk with me through my valleys and you will sing with me on my mountain.

Roatate the strike at the START of the innings. Good batman dont take 30 balls to get their eye in. Imagine if Bevan had to face the new ball like Tendulkar does.....how would our super hero cope ??

From a tendulkar website one of hundreds:
Most centuries in ODIs
On 25 September 1998, Sachin Tendulkar, aged 25 years and 155 days, created a new world record when he scored his 18th ODI hundred against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in his 191st innings and 198th match. In the process, he overtook Desmond Haynes' tally of 17 hundreds. Tendulkar presently has 28 hundreds to his account, nine more than his nearest rival Saeed Anwar.

Most runs in ODIs
During his knock of 69 in the final of the ICC KnockOut in Nairobi, he overhauled Mohd. Azharuddin's record ODI aggregate of 9372 runs, taking 81 matches and 62 innings less than his former India colleague.
[Sachin Tendulkar's One-day international career]
At Indore against Australia on March 31 2001, Tendulkar drove Shane Warne for a single to long-off and went down as the first man to scale the summit of 10,000 runs in ODIs.

1000 runs or more in World Cup matches
During the 1999 World Cup, Sachin Tendulkar became the second highest run getter in Cup history. Now only Pakistan's Javed Miandad remains ahead of him. Tendulkar has 1059 runs - just 24 behind Miandad - at an average of 58.8. The following table shows the details.
[ Sachin's 1000 runs in the World Cup ]
Maximum runs in a calendar year
Sachin Tendulkar made the highest runs in a single calendar year in ODIs in 1998, amassing 1894 in 34 games at an average of 65.31, including nine hundreds and seven fifties. Tendulkar broke his own world record of 1611 runs set in 1996. He also crossed 1000 runs in three other years 1994, 1997 and 2000.
[Highest Run in a single calendar year]
Youngest to 1000 runs in Tests
Tendulkar became the youngest batsman to score a Test half century when he made 59 against Pakistan at Faisalabad on November 24 1989. He also became the youngest man to score 1000 runs in Tests - at 19 years and 217 days - during his fourth Test century at Johannesburg in 1992/93.
[2nd TEST: South Africa v India at Johannesburg]
Unique debut in domestic cricket
He remains the only player to score a century on debut in all three domestic first class competitions: 100 not out in the Ranji Trophy (Bombay v Gujarat at Bombay 1988-89), 159 in the Duleep Trophy (West Zone v East Zone at Guwahati 1990-91) and 103 not out in the Irani Trophy (Rest of India v Delhi at Bombay, 1989-90).

Start? Finish?
Who gives a rats when he gets the runs.
A strike rate of 75 means that whatever pain you clearly go through-not to mention what appears to be sever anxiety attacks-he still scores a run off three out of four balls.
If he is sooooo slllooooowwwwww at the start as you say, well then gee, he sure does get a mighty wriggle on to meet that 75 strike rate doesn't he?
Tendulkar? Outstanding one day batsman-better strike rate than Bevan, about eight less on average rins per innings.
Which player has been more influential ON AVERAGE during their one day career?
Bevan.
If the writing isn't on the wall JLC-it is in the history books.

Everyone knows Bevan cant play short pitched bowling otherwise he may have had a good test career?
Please look at Tendulkars records and then tell me you think Bevan is a better Batsman.

Can't argue with those stats on Tendulkar-a great batsman.
Most runs in a calander year, most centuries etc. etc.
You'd expect that from the best overall batsman in the world who has played top level since he was 17 and bats at opener or three.
He has always had a bat in almost every match India has played.
Bevan didn't get a look in for two weeks in this WC. Different kinds of pressure-Tendulkar facing openers, Bevan facing a wicket and run rate issue at the death.
Possibly Apples and Oranges.
Best overall performer vs results?
Bevan.
