It'd be a stupid call.RICHO1991 wrote:Hmm as for the changes.. I think there are 4 givens

Out: N.Brown, McCarthy, Goldsack & Fraser
and then see if Malthouse wants to squeze Medhurst in..
perhaps at the expense of Blair or MacAffer.. but that would be a tough call

Medders did squat in the VFL!
I was actually rapt in today's game. Our B team almost (should have) snatched the game against the fourth best team in the league; the Hawks having everything to play. For us, it was a game we didn't need.
The plusses for me were:
Firstly, Leon stood up on the big stage against a top team and kicked two great goals and applied defensive forward pressure all day. Leon, you have secured a game against the Dogs.
Secondly, Reid was able to get the cobwebs out of his system and will be much better for the run next week.
Thirdly, Pendles is in career best form, which bodes well for his form in September.
Fourthly, there can be no doubt now that Bilbo Blair is in our best 22. The little terrier is a cross between Tony Shaw and Tony Francis, only more skillful.
Finally, next week, with our A team back in action, including Dids, (hopefully) Presti, Leroy and Johnno, we will absolutely pulverise the Dogs.
Sadly we have seen the last of Josh in black and white, and McCarthy, Nathan Brown and Goldsack are likely exclusions, if our four stars return next week. Looking forward to having our A team back next week.

Thought Leon was very good in the first half. Kicked an excellent set shot from almost 50 out on the boundary and set up another.Had 10 disposals, used and handled the ball well. Put on plenty of pressure.Big T wrote:Leon spent some time in the middle going by the call, was he effective and did he look fit?AN_Inkling wrote:Yeah, realised I'd forgotten him.Doc63 wrote:So, Johnno doesn't get a run? Means we have a tough choice. Have to drop either Leon or Blair. Tough to say, but I'd have to favour Leon.
Unfortunately was very quiet in the second half. Just the 2 disposals, though did kick a goal. For me, definitely showed enough to hold his place, his class of disposal is enough in itself; above any, bar maybe Didak, in the team. Wish he got more of it, but 10-15 disposals from Leon is better than most, and we do lack a bit of class at times.
Well done boys!

Um, have you seen his past few games. Field kicking hasn't really been a feature.Big T wrote:With our goal kicking woes, surely Medhurst has to come into consideration, he at least kicks straight.
Can't have more than 4 changes for next week.
In Brown, Presti, Dids, Johnno
Out Josh, Brown, JMac, Goldsack (only against the Dogs where we don't need excess backmen)

Disappointing to lose a game like that.
We should have won, but sooner or later, bad kicking for goal will cost you. We've been getting away with it for a while now, so no surprise to drop one, as disappointing as it is. We also had a few shocking turnovers which resulted in goals.
Hawthorn really had a lot more to play for than we did and their only real out was Hodge. We were missing Didak, Brown, Johnno & Presti.
All in all, we had plenty of chances to win it, but we cost ourselves in the end, rather than them winning it.

Those changes look good to me. I just hope Presti is fit. He is never allowed to retire. What'sinaname wrote:Um, have you seen his past few games. Haha, Meds is a far superior kick for goal from set shots than 90% of our starting 22. Field kicking is not the discussion. What'sinaname wrote:Um, have you seen his past few games. Agreed. Macaffer is miles ahead of Medhurst, and is no chance to be omitted.3.14159...etc wrote:It'd be a stupid call.RICHO1991 wrote:Hmm as for the changes.. I think there are 4 givens

Blair's not so far ahead, but his tackling pressure, in close work, and ability to kick the odd goals, should see him hold his place.
Having both Leon and Medhurst in the team would worry me. They don't have a second string to their bow when struggling to get a hold of it - well Leon does - midfield - but has not used it much this year. Medhurst has barely played a good senior game all year, it would be unfair to drop someone who is doing the job. Macaffer most definitely is, and Blair's doing well enough.
Medhurst's kicking has been off all this year, as well as most of last year. Both set shots and field kicking.
Well done boys!
