I think Goldsack can replace Macaffer rather than Maxwell and play as a link between the backline and the forwardline. We must keep him in the side as he is a super competitor.

If we have learnt anything, it is that we need all 22 players to compete. We are not good enough to carry passengers against the top teams, or even the lesser teams (eg Melbourne).

Leon Davis is on thin ice. Let's hope that he is keeping his powder dry for a burst of top form at the end of the season. I'm sure that he realises that he must do this if he wants to save his reputation.

Loved the ruck set up with Jolls as the no. 1 and Leroy et al as the back up. Unless either Wood or Fraser burn the house down, they have not shown enough competitive spirit this year to demand a place in the top 22.

If we want to challenge the Saints and the Cats, we desperately need Medhurst to fire. Imagine if we could rely upon Medhurst for 2 - 3 goals a week, plus Leon Magic Davis for 2 and Dick for 2 - 3 goals. What a difference it would make.

Agree that the disposal into the forward line is just a mess. And the positioning of the forwards is often a shambles too. This is a symptom of the modern game and the huge numbers around the ball and within one kick of the contest.

We really need to work out what to do when the Cats and the Saints position extra players in the backline waiting for us to misdirect our kicks into that area and then counterattack. To do this we must work at getting the midfield ball carrier more protection so that he can dispose of the ball better. We need to get the ball into the hands of guys who can kick well - eg Didak. And we need one of the big forwards to park himself inside 20m. It seems to me that our forward line has a habit of becoming too crowded. We need more coordination so that we can pull zonal defenders away from the central areas (i.e. best positions from which to kick goals). Alternatively, we might as well only practice goal kicking from the boundary line!

I was much happier with the defence last night as this has been a weak spot all year for us. Presti must stay in the team each week.

Let's hope that we can get everyone fit and firing for a good run into the finals.

A good solid win against a side that always has a real honest go.

Some observations:

Dawes - why he was dropped after one & a half quiet games is a mystery (and one of those was against Scarlett). I dont think he realises how powerful a unit he is. He should have the confidence to demand the ball more.

Jolly - I thought it was about his best game for us, especially around the ground.

Goldsack - have to find a way to keep this guy in the side, even after Maxwell comes back. No real need to rush Maxy back now, calf injuries can be a bit risky, so another week wont hurt.

Harry - is there a more exciting sight that Harry streaming towards goal?

Reid - what a season he's having. Going to be a top player for a long time.

Ball - I've come to the conclusion that this man is mad.

Leon - It's got to the stage where it's just sad to watch now.

We must win out next two games & win them well. We have a pretty hard run after that, but we could find ourselves on top if we play our cards right.

Mad or just Fearless?

Some of his attacks on the ball last night, especially in the first half were, well "mad".

On one occasion, he threw himself full length through 2 Sydney players just to knock the ball about 1 metre for a Collingwood clearance.

No one would count that as a stat, but it's worth 10 half back flanker possessions. (Unless your Heath Shaw).

Fearless, No. He knows fear he just ignores it. That doesn't make him mad or fearless, it just makes him frigging courageous. How St Kilda let him go has me $@&^#.

I just don't understand how or why anyone would try to defend that umpiring decision. Basically the gist of Lane's statement was that any contact between the head and another part of the player's body should always result in a free kick. Therefore, according to his logic, a player should be able to run into an opponent head-first and get a free. Considering that's exactly what happened, I'm not sure that the conclusion could be any clearer.

Why couldn't he just admit that the umpire had made a shocker? Had the teams been reversed, would it have been a different story?

That is a rather sweeping generalization about people.

Aside from the fact Tim Lane has one of the more boring voices in todays commentary, the bloke is an absolute biased moron. I don't think I can listen to that idiot commentate another Collingwood game.

Channel 10 would be better off getting rid of Tim Lane, and while they are at it, Sam should go too. She almost makes Caro look intelligent!

I couldn't claim to be a fan of either Sam Lane or Caro but don't basket Sam in the same universe as Caro. C Wilson is a muckraker who lives on subjective opinions and rumours. She rarely uses facts and always looks to be negative.
