Bucks made a very good point on the couch... Mentioned that against syd last time we were missing swan, johnno, dids, goldy and krak..... Thats got to make some sort of difference come finals time and experience.

Very confident this weekend.

Well Burnsy, he was close:

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/game ... 20811.html

Didak played and kicked a goal. Maxwell, Seedsman, Sinclair and Clarke the other players who featured that night, but missed the WCE final.
And in a surprising stat, Dawes the leading mark taker on the field vs. Sydney last time, with 8.
So yes, the 22 does look substantially more stable now, than at rnd.20.
It's all about how much petrol is left in the Magpie tank...

^ A couple of big ins for Sydney too, though - Bolton and Reid. Regardless, we are the better team, I've got no doubt and our best footy is good enough to win.

I'm pretty confident that we can do this. The three doubts I have are the six day break/ tiredness, no second ruck and any horrendous home town umpiring. Besides that the inclusion of Swan, Goldsack, Didak, Krakouer and Thomas compared to last time is a massive injection of class and potential match winners. I just think we will be too good.

At this stage of the season, its like for like. Sinclair will play is Didak can not. Wood will play if Dawes cannot. There is a small chance we will sacrifice one midfielder and play Wood and Paine, but that is really going to hurt us in my opinion.

Are the haters now starting to see the value of Dawes. Dare I say it, we are carrying on about Dawes in the same way we carried on about Leigh Brown in the early days. Maybe Dawes ends up in the Leigh Brown role and we develop Paine as the second tall forward. Or maybe Keefe? Or maybe when Keefe comes back, we move either Brown or Reid forward.

I saw that Tony Shaw reckons that if Dawes does not come up, we should play an extra midfielder in Sinclair instead. I hadn't considered that, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Homebush is a small ground, meaning there's not much room for a CHF anyway, so it might be better to have Cloke as the main marking target, supported by Goldsack and a few mid sized forwards like Fasolo and Daisy. We could also 'rest' Pendles and Swan down there as well. It would mean that Jolly did all the centre square ruck work, with a combination of Goldsack, Reid, Taz and Brown helping out around the ground.

Hopefully Dawes is able to play, but if he's significantly hampered by his injury, then this idea might just work. We must not play Dawes if he is less than around 90% fit.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread or not but I had completely forgotten that as well as all of the aforementioned "ins" this week compared with when we beat them six weeks ago or so.... Daisy was also subbed out early in the second quarter so he is basically another in too.

Come on Pies.... let's do this. Starting to feel very pumped about this game. Just hope the boys can get through tomorrow and then rest up and recharge in time for the game.

CHF is a ghost town at ANZ stadium. We'd do better to have some mid-sized forward roaming half forward and pumping it long to Cloke.

We've never executed from half-back to half-forward at ANZ particularly well ... only when we run through teh centre at ANZ do we create goals.

Yep, our ins are huge. Assume for the moment that Didak and Dawes both play. Our ins compared to last time we played Sydney are Swan, Johnson, Krakoeur, Goldsack, and for practical purposes Thomas - those are five massive ins, and of our four outs, only Maxwell would be an inclusion - Seedsman, Sinclair and Clarke will probably be our three emergencies, perhaps with one to stand aside to have Cam Wood ready if needed. (Or, alas, with one to play in place of Didak. I prefer Seedsman of the three, but I really just hope Didak is right to go.)

However, as the ever-astute Frankiboy points out, their ins are massive - Jude Bolton and Sam Reid. That's the equivalent of us getting Ben Reid and Travis Cloke back into a side.

This match is no pushover. Anyone can win. We should win, but it will go down to the last five minutes, and the six day break will be a genuine handicap.

Wood and Dawes is not like for like. Paine for Dawes is the only option if that's what you're after.

Dawes trained strongly and looks like he'll play, while Dids was unsighted, I think he may end up as the sub as a last minute emergency swap.
