WTF??????
I can't figure it out. They're paying Hird all of his salary for 2014 in 2013 so they can say that Hird will not be receiving a salary in 2014.
F*ck me, WTF, Unf*cking believable.

Gets paid a years salary for doing nothing and can earn even more money doing other shit during the year. So this is actually a bonus, not a punishment at all.

Exactly - he is being paid a $1M bonus for bringing the game into disrepute. These people do not live in the real world. The only justice to come from all of this is that Essendon should now be the most hated club in the league, and for a very valid reason, not "tradition".

I agree. It's hard to hate any club more than Carlton, but I think it has happened for me.

You can add embarrassed and humiliated itself as well as disgraced itself.By caving in to Essendon over the Hird pay saga, the A.F.L has turned itself into a national joke and made itself look incredibly weak.Demetriou has lost all credibility over this saga and should resign.
Well stated qldmagpie67. I initially took the stance that James Hird and those who knowingly assisted him should take the majority of the responsibility and hence the harshest penalties for what has occurred. I felt at he time that the upper administration, the club membership and the club as a whole were far less responsible and as such I did not want to see Essendon FC compromised as they are one of the bigger clubs and important member of the AFL.
Considering the collusion and manipulation by both the AFL, James Hird and the Essendon administration I believe that they all need to made fully responsible for their actions and I would expect ASADA to throw the book at them. There has been no remorse, there has been no admission that they have done anything wrong. Lessons have not be learnt and there is no commitment that they will not attempt the same regime in the future. They deserve no sympathy or consideration just contempt and punishment.
P.S. If this was the Collingwood FC I would still be a member but would be supporting a complete cleanout of those responsible and those who were aware of what was happening but did nothing. My support would be for my club and not the scum bags who betrayed everyone.
