Dixon is to much of a risk with his history and at his asking price.

Key forwards are prized for a reason and clubs very rarely entertain trade offers for the good ones or allow them to slip out of contract.

We can keep our first rounder and look to draft someone like Weideman if available but he's no sure thing and the hype mightn't match the talent.
Not sure how you think we can trade for Treloar & keep our first round pick?
Personally I can take him or leave him.
I don't but was giving an example of how we could potentially snare a key forward prospect outside the option of a mature aged one who are hard to attain via trade.

Well a quality one is.

While I still very much want Treloar the idea of being able to retain our first round selection and using it on a key forward to possibly partner Moore for the next decade is highly appealing.

Assuming of course Hine would select one with it.

Im with you Swoop and the way we are travelling, it may yet be that young weed is there for the picking. How do we do it ?
The '' only '' way I can see it happening, is if Sharenberg decides he wants to go home and we take the best pick available in return.
I for one, am not necessarily against it playing out that way, simply because although we are giving up a lot of potential, he is yet to play a senior game and is off a knee reco.
Im well aware of the raps on Shazza but the reality is there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world. Our list profile needs more height, not another promising H B F who may or may not make their way into the midfield. The above outcome virtually comes down to picking Treloar over Scharenberg plus some tinkering ( and we keep a first round pick )
I could live with that.

Adam Treloar update:

Post by inxs88 »

According to Sam McCLure whose mail is generally accurate on 3aw last night, he believed Treloar was closing in on agreeing to terms with the Pies for a 5 year $3,750,000 deal vs the $550,000 offer from GWS over the same amount of years.

Felt that the Pies were in the box seat with GWS officials already formulating trade deals required to satisfy. Apparently they look at the Beams deal as being commensurate in type and would want either of the following:

* Our 1st, 2nd round draft pick and a "steak knives" player of note

OR

* Our first round draft pick plus a top young emerging player

Many shall argue either deals are not worth it given Beams achievements outweigh Treloar's so far, however Beams having 4 more years in the system to achieve isn't necessarily Treloar's fault.

I tend to think option 2 would be better. Am sure we have some "fools gold" players we can offer to them.
I love the Pies, hate Carlscum

I wonder if Dekker has changed his mind on Stewart?

Treloar and Stewart for Pick 8 and Witts?

Yeah I don't like it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Treloar in black and white but 750k at this stage of his career is too much by half. To then also lose a first rounder and top emerging talent.....

Nah... Maybe our first and 2nd rounder but even then its because we're pretty certain Treloar will make it, earning him a premium over whoever we could get at pick 8 or wherever.

I understand that it's going to take a bit to shake him loose from GWS and that we will have to pay overs but I think that the offers mentioned are a bit OTT

You got to remember in 5 years time 750k will probably be equivalent to about 400k now. If the contract is somewhat back ended - even better.
I think the deal is about right.

Look at this:
Ranked 6th in Total Handballs in 2015
Ranked 8th in Total Effective Disposals in 2015
Ranked 10th in Total Goal Assists in 2015
Ranked 9th in Total Uncontested Possessions in 2015
Ranked 7th in Handballs Per Game in 2014

Turning 23yo - i think the contract is win-win for him and us.
Potentially would have gone no.1 draft pick.
In my personal view - its a steal !
HeraldSun wrote: Dandenong Stingrays coach Graeme Yeats said teammates Dylan Shiel and Adam Treloar, signed by the newest AFL franchise last month, would have been been pick No.1 and No.2 in next year's national draft.

But as part of GWS's list concessions, it has unfettered access to the best dozen 17-year-olds in the land, so it can pick the eyes out of the 2011 draft as the Gold Coast Suns did last year.

No doubt they will be after one of our rucks, in which case no way.

Broomhead and our first rounder. Would hate to see him go as I think he'll be a pretty good player for us. Fits the bill of emerging talent and a former first rounder. Knows where the goals are, is quick and good around the packs - not all dissimilar to what they're losing.

With Freeman and Shaz still to come in I can't see it hurting us too much in the short to medium term.

I'd swap someone with premiership experience & another with experience living in Sydney. Young & Armstrong.

He nominates Collingwood as his preferred Club. If a satisfactory trade cannot be done then he nominates for draft and GWS get nothing.

Beams was still under contract. Totally different situation as Beams couldn't play elsewhere unless Collingwood agreed to a trade.

Think I'd rather put $750k/year towards Danger.

Given the Phillip Walsh situation I suspect there's no danger he's leaving Adelaide. Having said that Geelong I thought is the preferred detination
