Not I. He's again putting the loss down to player effort. Not good enough. I want more responsibility from our coach, stop exclusively blaming the players.

^ Yes, i had the same reaction. The coach was blameless, it seems. I was waiting for one of the journalists to ask him where he took responsibility and whether he felt under any pressure. Since they did not, he might have put his own hand up. He speaks well, as ever, but words do not play football.

Our training methods are all wrong. It's so obvious, it makes me want to cry. Add to this 3 years of a non-stop injury toll. It's not down to luck. Instead, the club maintains faith in our fitness department head, Davoren, an ex Bulldogs, and Saints fitness coach, with a background in triathlon. The triathlon is a marathon-type of event. Modern footy is all about speed-endurance...the ability to do repeated 300m sprints. It's like Usain Bolt hiring a marathon coach. The Hawks wouldn't go near this guy. They know the importance of getting the Fitness program right.
It's worth noting that 2 of our speedsters in Freemam and Seedsman have been traded away.

Great Post. Saved me half an hour on the keyboard saying the same things!!
I believe we have players with some real issues. For some, these are fixable, for others it's time to make a call on unfortunately.

Gone:
Blair - not AFL standard. No skills, no running power. Too small to compete in the air.
McCaffer - too slow. Can't spread.
Goldsack - fumbles too much. Doesn't provide run.
Brown - not able to run. Can't hit a target over 20m.
Frost - same as Brown.
Toovey - great servant of our club. Unfortunately kicking is his downfall, and too late to change.

Fixable but need rapid improvement:
Marley Williams - atrocious kicking style. Can only kick it long with any reliability. The coaches need to make a serious attempt to fix his action. He's been at our club long enough now. I blame the coaches.
Jarrod Witts - too soft. Can't mark.
Grundy - just like Witts.
Jesse White - soft and lacks decision-making in traffic. Not sure what training can fix this. Perhaps give him stints in the middle.
Cloke - the coaches need to understand a left-footer kicks differently to a right-footer. Get someone that understands biomechanics ffs. He needs to come in on an arc like Buddy.
Maynard - overrated kick. Doesn't guide the ball onto his boot naturally. Poor decision maker.
Oxley - soft. Takes a long time to make a decision. He's a good mark, but a bit slow. He is the ox after all.
Adams - kicking technique needs to be smoothed out. Too deliberate when he kicks. Right hand comes off the ball too early. We need him to become our Sam Mitchell.
Gault - terrible kicking action. A 195cm power forward should cover 50m easily. Needs to attack every aerial contest like he owns it. I only have a glimmer of hope he can turn it around...doesn't have much time.

The one positive I saw from today is that Goodyear looks like a good mover. Again, kicking needs to be polished up.

To those saying that we lack hunger or not playing for the coach, I say rubbish. Every team can bring 100% effort. Even weekend teams in the C-grade amateurs bring 100% effort. It should never nor can we rely on it to be a differentiator, but a given. We simply don't have either the fitness, strength, skills, or confidence to execute.

Eddie, get off the Foxsports channel and bloody fix this club.
I love the Pies, hate Carlscum

The aim of the coaches seems to be to turn us into a slick, fast-transition team. You can hardly blame them for trying to do that, given that seems to be the ideal of modern football.

However, I don't believe our players have enough pace or sufficient skills to play like that, at least not at the moment. What we were really good at last year was swarming on the opposition player with the ball and forcing them to give it up - pressure applied with maximum grunt. In other words, playing ugly football.

Bucks is far from dumb - there were indications in his post-match conference that he may be re-thinking the current strategy. I for one would rather we win ugly, than not at all.

The irony is, after today, we are a bottom five team so the first-rounder from the forthcoming draft we gave up for Treloar will be a very early pick... Sigh.

More turnovers today than at a bakery. Appalling skills and an almost complete lack of effort or sustained running. Twenty tackles to half time ( many of them insipid) says it all.

Coach has to carry the can for this. If Swan retires and Cloke is traded, well over a million is saved for the salary cap. Good luck getting 60,000 members next year if we finish 14th or worse.

We don't need a coach who re-thinks his strategy. We need a leader who knows the best way forward and is able to make his team play accordingly.
Don't look like either is happening at Collingwood .

I am watching Carlton- and am more impressed with what their players bring to a game than ours.

I am off to have a good long look in the mirror.

I hope our players and coaching staff do the same

Our defensive structures collapsed ...
Who keeps us playing zone at all times ... You Bucks
Who has that zone push too far up the ground ... You Bucks
Who play the best link man in the game(Pendles) in the backline ... You Bucks
Yes they are breaking down and is largely your fault

I pretty much agree with everything he said.
Not one word of responsibility taken by him or any real self examination. All the usual blather about stats, possession, pressure, and blaming the players for poor execution. And as usual his mates in the media give him a free ride, not one searching question about his role in it at all.

That said that's the lowest I've seen him so far.
We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.

I'm certain you wouldn't be saying that if we just lost to the Suns by 54 and only scored 5 goals.
