What a great passage of play that epitomizes how far we have come since last season. The big Cox actually marked the ball cleanly defensively in a pack, kicked it in the direction of Philipps, who kept it alive, who rolled it towards JDG, who fed it onto to Stephenson.
All that's good about this season - players coming of age, TEAM WORK and a great recruit adding X-factor!!!
Yeah, was a great last play. Overall good game from Stephenson too. Only thing I didn't like was some of his mistakes out of defence. Much prefer him forward of the centre, but everyone needs to get back to help now and then.
Well done boys!

Now I've had time to calm down I can reflect on what was a really solid - albeit ugly - win. That game was always going to be a struggle despite them being winless and in poor form. The media were pumping them up and promoting us as being ripe for the taking.

The commentary team should face the firing squad for their disgraceful one-sided call. Their job is to remain unbiased and not barrack for teams. duanal russell obviously couldn't control the party in his pants everytime brisbane got near the ball or kicked a goal; then plays down any great effort by us or uses the opportunity to talk about what brisbane need to do to get back in the game. Suck a fat one!

It would have been easy to roll over in the end and get overwhelmed but to stand tall and get the win when everything was going against us, you can't ask for more than that. And we did it with 3 fit players on the bench and no captain.

A loss would've set us back a few weeks and made life difficult for the rest of the year. But winning should instill a newfound belief and resilience in the team to not only withstand pressure, but come up with an answer when the opposition comes knocking. That's what we haven't really seen in years gone by. Everyone played their role and did what was required.

How good was de goey though. Those 5 goals were amazing and kicked from all over the place, mostly under pressure. Once he cleans up the defensive side of his game he'll be a star.

Like your post Warrenerra very much. Agree with all points you made,
especially the comments about Dwayne Russell. He should've bent taken off air at half-time !! Deplorable.
Anyway, I must get over that particular commentator's putrid performance.
As you say, a loss would've would've been disastrous for our positive momentum, but to answer the oppositions repeated efforts again and again will hopefully instill belief and confidence in each other to get the job, done no matter what.

Great to get rhe 4 points. In previous years this is ths game that we would have expected to win but lost.

3 games in 11 days takes it toll pn the legs and this was clearly evident.

Cox and ZdeGoey showing why we had so much faith in them.

No I don't think I have any it gone the other way David King would be doing victory laps of the Gabba like I was doing when GWS beat us at the death last year. But I do have an answer to every question. .

Pep wrote:Yeah we looked tired during the second half, had players coming back from injury, but we did kick our highest score of the year, we looked much better going forward i thought, but as melliot wrote, the defensive structure was lacking and they did seem to be able to score more freely against us than previous weeks. I reckon bucks backed the players to out score the lions and although we got a scare, this is a massive step forward in the right direction this season.
"I can't say it was pleasant viewing from our perspective," [Buckley] said.

"That was the worst we've defended all year, but we were able to show enough pluck to get the job done.

"There's a lot we'll have a look at that we won't like on tape, but we get the four points and the lesson, which is a good problem to have."

Really people are bitching about the fixture? After ANZAC Day we got a side who played the night before, then a full 7 day break and another 7 day break coming up this week, what more could you possibly want?

Good to escape with the 4 points, but next week could be a slaughter.

Considering we've been 2-5 after round 7 in the last two years, then yes I would have absolutely taken 4-3.

The good
  • JDG - fantastic game, and a solid 4 quarter effort too. Great response after last week
Phillips - great especially in the first half. For the record I thought he was pretty good last week too
Treloar - softened the loss of Pendles
Crisp and Howe, would've been very ugly without those 2
For once, being the team that loses in general play but wins the game because of a bit of extra class in the forward 50
Holding on and counterpunching after each of their counterattacks, shows a maturing side
The bad
  • Our mids looked tired. Too many decisive centre clearances went their way. Our press was sliced through / didn't get set up at all too often. Left our backs open too again and again.
Our backs were exposed for height. This game showed that we don't have a genuine tall defender, and might be why Moore was being trialled back there. Other teams will learn from this and seek to exploit in future games.
Was a bit frustrating not seeing any tactical moves from the box, seeing as each quarter played out almost like each other so it was the sort of game ripe for the coach who makes the right move. Would've liked to have seen an extra man in defence or Moore tried out at the back.
The ugly
  • Some very patchy games from some players, hope they learn from it
Hope Pendles is ok. There's nobody quite like him in the team.
