A nod and a wink to the mid-fielders and we could have had a clear centre clearance. Didn't happen. Perhaps, it's just not in their repertoire, but it would be good to see it included..

People bagging Noble, seriously, this time last year the guy had just joined us from SA. This season has been covid'd and he wasn't close to our worst. He shows poise, dash and good kicking. The kind of bottom six player than can win you a flag.

More influential game from Crisp, who can also help cover for Howe, possibly inject Quaynor to help there as well. It's easier staffing back roles when you have Moore and Roughhead, Maynard, to build around than find reliable avenues to goal.

Cox will get better, possibly shouldn't have played on a slippery night as they have always led to people calling for his head in the past, but he will get better. Goal was clutch, nevertheless.

Billy struggling to get involved. Ditto WHE. Mayne did serviceable job on Whitfield, but shocking miss for a veteran. Steele did some handy things in the second half getting away from De Boer, Pendles stood up (but could have done with that goal), Grundy too. Moore.

Why the eye -rolling 3rd degree???? Howie is not only a magnificent intercept defender, he's also the present general of the back-line. There is no-one else who could step up and take this role. By rolling your eyes, I think you are totally under-valuing his importance to the team.
Then again, I suppose Richmond did win a premiership without Rance.

PP, maybe there will be someone else able to step up and assume a commander's role. Crispie and Bruzza have accumulated a bit of experience by now. I reckon Jack Crisp will be the one.

I wouldn’t be quick to drop Noble he has speed and can break a line. Treloar will add another element by being able to break away from the contest. Our midfield is all grunt at the minute. Unfortunately they got outgrunted again when a team was willing to scrag at all costs. Happened in PF in 2019 and in GF in 2018.

Like I said earlier we keep losing in the same manner when it comes to the crunch, let’s see how Bucks handles this scenario.

Yeah, good point MTTM. I am just so devastated over the loss of Howie, that it's hard to consider any other possibilities for his leadership role while it's so fresh. However, I agree with you re Crisp. He's an experienced, mature and steady footballer now and is prepared to take a risk and run through the middle . How was his goal tonight?

We have no one to blame but ourselves for that loss. We had opportunities to win the match in the final quarter, but we blew it with inept kicking for goal. We had 15 inside 50s to 4 in the last quarter, and we could only manage 1.5 for the quarter.

The Giants' physical nature is a challenge for us. If we're to be a successful team and match it the best teams in the competition, we have to be able to absorb the physicality of the opposition. I feel that once the opposition gets physical with us, we become rattled by it.

A lot of passengers tonight. Starting to lose faith in Cox, and I'm not sure he's capable of leading our forward line in the future. De Goey, Hoskin-Elliott and Elliott all need to step up. Stephenson and Mihocek look like the only forwards capable of scoring but they're not without their own flaws either.

Sidebottom struggled to break De Boer's tag in the first half, but improved as the match progressed. History shows if a hard tag is applied on Sidey, he struggles to overcome it. Opposition teams will take note of this for future reference.

It doesn't appear we've been able to address the inability to take advantage of Grundy's ruck dominance over the off season, which is a problem that existed last year as well. We won the hitouts 55-21, but lost the clearances 36-31.

Howe's injury was a devastating blow for the team. His absence will be major, so Buckley and co have a big task on their hands to re-structure our defence in such a way that it remains as effective and resolute as it has been for a number of weeks.

Could you explain why? I know it would require the mids and high forwards being ready to intercept it and for Brodie to get a clear contact with the ball, but the Giants mids seem to be roving to Grundy's circle tap-outs anyway.
