Israel is warning people to leave Northern Gaza before incursion. Hamas attacked Israel without warning.

And you think Hamas are not terrorists.
and this is all I have to go on in this instance.

if israel go ahead and kill little kids in front of their parents, i will think the same as them. If they dont strike back, what will become of Israel?

the hamas are hiding behind human shields.

That is an example of the length some on the Israeli side will go to to make sure no peace process can ever be successful.

Then of course we have the other extreme side of the coin.

No one denies what Hamas done was a disgrace, a war crime and deserves reprisal (and from what I can gather a number were subsequently killed in further confrontations with the IDF) the trouble is Hamas isn't the Palestinian people as a whole just as ISIS aren't the majority of Muslims.

While the world is right to reel in horror at the though of innocent Israeli men, women and children being slaughtered at the hands of an AK-47 so to should they at the thought of multiple missiles collapsing an apartment building without a word of warning.

Sure 1 or 5 Hamas members might have been inside or a stockpile of weapons stored but how about all the dead and as I write this slowly dying innocents who have little choice where they live (children no choice) or little option but comply if Hamas come knocking.

Bringing death has become to clean and clinical for those in the west and whether it be drones or smart missiles we can kill with a push of a button and watch it all unfold in real time on the other side of the world.

That is partly why our reaction is much more visceral when death is delivered by such old fashioned dirty means like the end of a gun or knife.

It's so much more personal and unlike a bomb the shame can't be hidden beneath a mountain of twisted metal and concrete.

People should care about the civilians on both sides (I feel empathy for individual IDF members also) and when seeing a little Palestinian child clearly traumatised in the coming days, weeks and months should feel the same amount of compassion for them as they do for those on the opposite side of the conflict.

I pity and fear for the press, aid workers, doctors and nurses caught in a bad situation that's about to get worse.
exactly right, but whats the answer?

who the **** lets these power crazy idiots get away with it in this day and age?

if Israel did nothing, would Hamas have stopped? or just claimed victory and traded civilians for terrorists.

Option 3 is what was supposed to happen originally. The Jews agreed but the Arab nations didn't so here we are.

Option 3 is still the best, but while you have large populations of Muslims, led by Iran, who want all the Jews out of Isreal (effectively option 2 but on the Jews) we remain in this mess.

Given Palestine voted in Hamas, you'd think there's more like minded Palestinians in their territories rather than "innocent" civilians.

People may elect a government, but they aren't accounatble for what it does, that Government is.

Regardless who and how many voted for Hamas, I'd bet a lot of them would like another chance to vote as unlikely as that is going to be.

What does it take to get the West bank designated as an actual Country, with hard borders, call it Palestine if you want, rather than a protectorate of Israel?

That would be a damn good start, then solve the problem of the Gaza Strip after.

Only issue would be the obvious one, Iran and extreme Islamic actors would try to ensure that the new Palestine would be an Islamic state, no democracy, and we're back to square one, 2 neighboring countries at constant war footing.

^To give you an idea of the social conditions in Gaza which are the context of this crisis:
1) According to the UN, 60% of the population of Gaza requires humanitarian assistance
2) The population of Gaza is extremely young. Therefore, in Gaza, the conditions of the youth is horrific. There is 50% youth unemployment, and children live amidst constant violence due to extreme right wing Jewish settlers, sporadic Israeli government bombardments and targeted assassinations. Due to this, many children in Gaza suffer from PTSD. According to the UN, 50% of children in Gaza are in need of psychological assistance.
It is in this context that the Israeli government has escalated bombardments to unprecedented levels, destroying entire neighbourhoods and already killing at least 1500 Palestinian citizens, before any ground invasion. The Israeli government has also raised the blockade level to a total siege, meaning that electricity has been cut off, and no food, nor fresh water, nor medications can enter Gaza. Already, this siege has gone on for 1 week. How many Palestinain baibies, elderly people, depending on machines and medications to support their survival, have died so far as a resuilt of this siege? You will never find out in the Western media.

Thousands rally in both Melbourne and Sydney in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Wonderful photos of Jewish people in solidarity with Palestine attending as well.
Rally of thousands took place in Sydney despite the efforts of Minns to ban it.

MTTM is presumably referring to this picture: https://live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.ne ... 2d7fbd1e46

It's not an unusual phenomenon. Many Jews support Palestinian rights and oppose Israel's policies, and there are many such organisations who turn up to rallies like this here and abroad (including in Israel itself):

https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/
https://jfjfp.com/

You can read more about Jewish opinions on Israel and Palestine here:

https://www.smh.com.au/world/middle-eas ... 5bwv1.html
A 2021 study of the Australian public funded by Jewish media outlet Plus61J revealed that 62 per cent of the nearly 3500 respondents equally supported both Israelis and Palestinians, 11 per cent sided more with the Israelis and 19 per cent more with the Palestinians. Support for Palestinians was particularly pronounced among 18 to 24-year-olds.

These figures should worry the local Jewish establishment because they follow a trend similar to that seen in the United States over the last decade, with growing numbers of young Jews there turning against Israel. Former US president Donald Trump accelerated this movement both by uncritically backing Israel’s colonial project during his time in office and recently accusing American Jews of insufficient gratitude for his support of the Jewish state. A 2021 survey of American Jews found that 22 per cent of respondents agreed that “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians” and 25 per cent that “Israel is an apartheid state”.

update: officially over 2300 Palestinian civilians have now been killed by Israeli bombardments.
Quote from the head of the UN relief Agency for Palestinian refugees:
the scale and speed of the unfolding humanitarian crisis is bone-chilling. Gaza is fast becoming a hell-hole and is on the brink of collapse.Without immediate access to fuel to produce safe drinking water people will start dying of severe dehydration, among them young children, the elderly and women. Water is now the last remaining lifeline.”

The health system in Gaza is collapsing. On Sunday, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a statement that it “strongly condemns Israel’s repeated orders for the evacuation of 22 hospitals treating more than 2,000 inpatients in northern Gaza. The forced evacuation of patients and health workers will further worsen the current humanitarian and public health catastrophe.”

“The lives of many critically ill and fragile patients hang in the balance,” the WHO stated, including “those in intensive care or who rely on life support; patients undergoing hemodialysis; newborns in incubators; women with complications of pregnancy, and others all face imminent deterioration of their condition or death if they are forced to move and are cut off from life-saving medical attention while being evacuated.”
[/i]

Israel is now subjecting the Gaza population to systematic starvation and dehydration, "softening them up" for the imminent ground war. All governments in the EU, the US and Australia are complicit because they are giving their full support to the Israeli government.

^Yes, correct David, I was referring to the photo you referenced.
These numerous Jewish organisations which oppose the Israeli government's repression of the Palestinian people is the antidote to all the media propaganda we see which attempts to portray all of israel united behind the Nazi like policies of the Netahanyu government. Nothing could be further from the truth.
