I had it a few years back, I was in bed for about 4 months. It is a shocking thing to get. I passed out at the doctors when I went in for the initial tests. It took me about a year to fully get over it and there is still the chance I could have a re-lapse.

lets just hope that its not the severe kind.

Like guys like B&W Storm have said, its the extra exertion that can **** up the recovery process. But its good that its diagnosed know, and he should be in pretty good hands with a team of medical staff watching over him. So hopefully a plan can be tailored for him to get him thru it without too much worry.

On the other hand, Lynchy was shaping as a pretty good player before CF struck him down, so he wouldnt have been short of medical attention...and he still had to battle it for 10 years.

And in other news, Beau Dowler (mr late pick cos hes seriously injured) is looking loike being right for round 1.

The vast majority of cases are mild. I had it as a teenager and my partner had it early last year. The virus stays in your blood for good but the worst of it commonly lasts for around 2 to 3 weeks. The lethargy can last 2 to 3 months. Rest is the only remedy.

CFS (chronic fatigue) is hard to diagnose and some people believe viruses can cause it. Anecotally heavy, prolonged exercise by elite athletes can be a cause. Many, many elite athletes and sports people have had it. Lynch believes a bunch of stressful events caused his (including the move to Brisbane, a car accident, the death of a close relative, a virus and two fairly serious footy injuries all occuring close together).

Pendlebury will probably be over his in a few weeks and will have to do a slow return to training, so I guess there goes his uninterrupted pre-season.

At least let them kick some of the dew off the grass at Williamstown before making a call. Personally I like to let them get two pre-season under their belt before I'll make a call.

Just on Penders, there are plenty out there that reckon this kid has got something special and just needs to get more footy into him. His evasive skills in traffic are said to be mercurial.
I'm with Rand although I have Eddie Gold on Ignore so I can't see his garbage, I'm happy with our draft picks and will stay optimistic unless proven otherwise.

yep i got a very severe case of gf when i was in year 9 from over doing it in the swimming pool.

Most cases are mild but can linger for a long time and it really attacks your immune system and makes you feel fatigued. It has taken me a good 3 years to really knock it on the head. Although i got over it within a month...i have got a lot of colds since and when i get sick it is for longer periods of time. Only now am i really able to do any real endurance work and i am starting to get back into the swimming pool

Heres hoping it is a mild case which he gets over quickly.
There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

I have a friend who started with GF, which turned into CF, and was sick for the better part of 4 years, and still hasnt properly recovered.

Heres hoping some expert medical care can hold both Pendelbury and Stanley and good stead.

Who knows, if it was affecting Pendlebury's Draft camp times...it may have kept him off other clubs radars a bit...although we did get him at 5...so its not like we picked him late as a bargain. hehe.

Oh well.....good luck to them anyway.

Best of luck to the kid. Just the last thing he needs after a solid build up to the break. It will knock him around - best of luck to him, a fast left footed winger is just what we are after.

Rhyce Shaw sufferred from this in his teens. I was never diagnosed officially, but I had a similar sort of thing back in 1999 (Grade 3). I missed two months of school.

Having had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), I wouldnt wish it on anybody, (yes, even Lynchy). Mine started with Glandular fever as well, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. Glandular fever alone can knock you around for about 12mths, lets hope due to his fitness etc, he can overcome this hiccup on the way to a grand career at the Pies!
Enjoy yourself. Its later than you think!

Pendle's should play this week.

Post by loki04 »

MM has finally stated he does not believe we have the skills to do what most teams do, so I think we need to play Thomas and PENDLES from here on out.
Pendles has shown in his games with willy he is nothing but class he may be a bit under done but all that means is you play him off the bench.

Also all players that consistantly turn the ball over and there is a few of them, should be dropped until they get there act together.

IN - OUT

S.Burns - B.Johnson (learn to kick)
H.O'brien - J.Clement (injured)
C.Cloke - T.Cloke (find some form)
H.Shaw - G.Richards (Can't stand up let alone play)
S.Pendlebury - C.Egan (go in harder)
B.Caracella - R.Lonie (needs to grow a pair of balls)

I am amazed at how good the skills are of the younger crops coming through now - Judd, Ball, Thomas, Pendles, Harry - why can't the older players be taught remedially.

Didak is still the model for the AIS on kicking mechanics.

Pendles may get a game - Burns and Harry first 2 in.

Then Fred and Pendles - but MM won't like to make more than 2 changes - unless Jimmy is out.
