The fact that we have three forwards who rarely kick goals playing is shocking to me especially because Stephenson and Ruscoe are out of the team! There is no way the coaching panel believes that Josh Thomas, Callum Brown and Travis Varcoe are better options than Ruscoe and Stephenson. The only reason I can think of is they want some pressure in our forward half, and thats y we brought in Varcoe, but considering he had 1 tackle why not play Ruscoe?

I thought Varcoe played well. He scares the bejeezus out of opponents with his hardness. I like him up forward. He is also capable of playing on the wing or in defence should we need him to do so.

For mine, the one who should be replaced is Callum Brown. Sure he gives his all, but he is just not skilful enough imo and doesn't get enough of the ball.

^ Callum Brown set up two goals, both of which ended up as points because our forwards can't kick adequately. Varcoe did not seem to do anything.

Varcoe looks busy but rarely impacts the play anymore.

You will see him near the play, or tackle / bump a player but only after they have disposed of it with the tackle / bump not making any difference.

There is one stat in football that is even less valuable than the hit-out stat. That stat is the scaring the beejesus out of opponents tally. It's not the 70's with Magro terrorising opponents.

I had glandular fever when i was a ridiculously fit teenage surfer. Took ages to recover. I think people are being too hard on him. He will recover, it just takes time

Alistair Lynch was a sufferer through most of his career at the Lions. Didn’t stop him playing good footy but at its worst you have to spend a lot of your time in ice baths to help ease the symptoms.
I guess at some point, the back story will come out. Hopefully, for his sake it’s not C F S.

Back in the days before leg ropes? When surfers spent 90% of the day either swimming after their boards or paddling back to the line-up.

A good friend of mine once got glandular fever (from a one night stand while holidaying in China, how's that for bad luck?!), and could only work half-days for the next six months - at his desk job! I'm sure it hits everyone differently, but if one bloke can be too fatigued to sit at a desk and use his brain, I completely understand how an athlete could be well below their best.

Lynch also self reported his steroid use and was given a warning. If banned steroids were used as part of recovery now, that would result in a several year suspension if discovered.

Lynch also went for a period not playing away games. From memory he didn't go to Perth because the travel was too much.

Agreed - i had it as a late teen and months were just a blur.
Hope the boy is taking super good care of himself.
Got a lot of premiership winning footy ahead of him.

Stepho seems to be a young fella that needs a fresh task to focus on. I saw it in my nephew recently, sort of floated through one year before grabbing an objective with both hands. Been good to watch him mature during that short space of time.

Maybe too late in the season to begin tinkering with position changes so maybe 2021 is the year to reset his role and attach him to one of the Clubs best trainers to mentor him during the pre-season.
Did it come too easily in 2018? His feet would have barely touched the ground. Then 2019 the hard fall to Earth post suspension then glandular fever. That's a lot to take in for a young bloke.

The kid is born to play finals, might be just the spark he needs.
