Why would you do this?
Back in June, we heard of a controversial study conducted by a team of University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers that generated an influenza virus with similar characteristics to the infamous 1918 pandemic flu virus. The research was criticized by many and branded as crazy, foolish and dangerous by experts. Now, according to The Independent, lead researcher Yoshihoro Kawaoka has gone one step further by manipulating the 2009 H1N1 flu strain so that it can evade the immune system.

Great, lets take a flu virus that kills people and make a version that can dodge the human immune system.

They would do this because they just weaponized influenza.

Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNe6fsaCVtI

See if you can make your mind stop seeing the wheel made of white dots rolling round a red circle. I can't, even with the lines.

See here for explanation http://www.iflscience.com/brain/cycloid ... -your-mind

Doesn't help. :?

Is it really an optical illusion per se? As far as I can tell, the balls are all travelling in a straight line, but they're doing so in a way that creates a moving circle. So, both are actually happening. Perhaps I need to read that link. :?

Exactly, it is just the sequence that the balls travel which makes both happen.

Lebanon is hardly Saudi Arabia. I'm surprised that this is still a law over there, to be honest.

Whether or not she should have known that (or did know it and took a calculated chance) is another matter. I reckon it's pretty rotten luck either way.

(What makes me go 'WTF' is why she's facing charges in Lebanon but apparently in Tripoli. Can someone explain this?)
