The 2021 Great Big Consolidated Trade & Draft thread
Moderator: bbmods
Nicely articulated INXS88. Great start by the club and still with a ( very likely ) top ten pick in hand for 2022.
What would really be handy to help Wright weave his magic, is to know when Daicos is going to be called out. It would be a big advantage for us to know the Kangas strategy ( and Giants to lesser extent )
It’s not up to the Kangas to give the club any feedback unless there’s something in it for them also. However, our capacity to trade in another decent player could go to a whole new level very quickly if we categorically knew J H F was going to be called out before Nick ( all subject to cap space of course )
I’m leaning to the Kangas now calling out J H F right off the bat at # 1. Not because he’s better than Daicos but because J H Fs SANFL prelim closed the gap and the Kangas may now feel better about picking him at #1 and pulling in some much needed positive spin and marketing for a lowly club.
Here’s hoping.

...and I might add, everybody here at Nick's chipped in with their own suggestions of the coming move that was to be played, but as far as I can tell, few picked it. Goes to show that we have a master player in charge.

Excellent work by Graeme Wright.
Immediately, the draft position of the Pies seems a whole lot brighter.
If any of Cox, Sier, Lynch, Murphy, Rantall, Elliott, Hoskin-Elliott are traded out, we can get back into the second and third rounds of the 2022 draft.
(Not suggesting any, or all, of the above will be gonski by the way.)
Currently
Off- Greenwood, Mayne, Tohill.
On (or just about on) Kreuger, Daicos and Lipinski.
Happy to play fair with the Cats, but after being boned by the Dogs last year we should offer them SFA for Lipinski.
At the end of the day, we need to get those three boys in the door asap.

I didn't say we had, I said you could argue that and then qualified it.inxs88 wrote:How can we have paid overs when we have acquired an extra 4th rounder this year and next year plus secured there pick 22 this year??stui magpie wrote:It is a good deal, we've nailed Daicos, protected our first round pick and bought some flexibility. My only concern is we've paid a high price for picks that Gold Coast likely weren't going to use themselves.
You could argue we've paid overs, but if we didn't do it they could have traded those picks elsewhere for future picks so from that perspective it's a win win.
In an ideal world, any trades we make out are for next years picks and/or we manage a way to buy back into that draft
These were picks they weren't going to use, the only value to them was what someone else was willing to pay for them. We got in early, time will tell if we paid overs I guess but it certainly seems like a win win.

David King, Montagner after carrying on for 12 months we stuffed up trading our first this year, now we do a deal to easily land the best kid in this years draft they start carrying on about trading our future away next year. I mean aside from the fact we can still trade back in - they are late picks !!
No mention we have access to Dib this year. No mention of all the kids we brought in last year.
Just morons.

We can see Wright and Hine's experience and wisdom making the right choices.
We speculated about points, but the issue was deeper. What they have also achieved is changing from not being in control, to being able to manage outcome.
It is an unknown whether we needed 3000 or 1800 points. It could have been that we go into the draft and fly by the seat of our pants.
Now we have our feet perfectly planted to negotiate on an even keel. If we have leftover points, we can move them or use them.
Much better prospect than buying under duress.
It's like Elon Musk walked into the building !

Should see if Geelong want to swap 32 and 34 (1126 points) for our pick 22 (845 points)
Leaves Geebung with picks 22 and 30 and we have more points for Nick and perhaps a couple of Hine Specials
They'll try to weave Kreuger into the deal but I reckon we get burnt there, leave it til later, he could be PSD for all we know

Do we have to pay in sequence? i.e… From our lowest pick, Say 22.
Or can we retain(skip) 22, and make up the points with lower picks ?

Pretty sure it's our best pick first, not sure if you can select any order of picks after that, maybe someone here knows?Charlie Oneeye wrote: Do we have to pay in sequence? i.e… From our lowest pick, Say 22.

Always start the points accumulation with that clubs first available selection and then keep giving up your next picks until the bid value has been met.Charlie Oneeye wrote:Good move.Macattacks wrote:Should see if Geelong want to swap 32 and 34 (1126 points) for our pick 22 (805 points)

Correct. We could trade our pick # 22 before the night and then the matching of the Daicos bid would start at 36 onwards. If Daicos was called out at # 2, we could achieve that bid total without much fuss, even starting at # 36 ( and that includes fair and reasonable trades for Lipinski and Krueger )Macattacks wrote:And that's all your picks til it's paid? and what's left over settles wherever it's worth points wise?Pies2016 wrote: Always start the points accumulation with that clubs next available selection.
