As Bertrand Russel said, it must have taken ages for people to realize that a brace of pheasants and a couple of days are both instances of the number "two. "

I just booked 5 nights in Darwin in a week and a bit.

Been looking for jobs and getting depressed with the cold and getting no where. So I decided that if I get a job, I won't have time to get away and the NT is the only state/territory in Australia I haven't been to, so far kit.

Staying at the Palms city resort on the esplanade, walking distance to all the main stuff, so I can get some heat, see somewhere new, and come back mentally refreshed and ready to rock.

Cheers mate,

I'm not helping myself, I know, as I'm focusing on part time or short term contract roles that don't require too much travel.

Still, got a few irons in the fire, I'm confident something will come up.

I went to Darwin with my boss about 15 years ago . After a few beers at the Alice Springs QANTAS club we arrived in Darwin about 2 pm. Checked into the Travelodge (we shared a room) and then did a walk around and went back to the Hotel and we were on the second floor. The Hotel next door had a swimming pool and we were pondering what to do next when about 20 girls who were working at the Darwin Santa Fe Gold lobbed in the swimming pool for a water aerobics class. Rang room service and ordered 6 crownies and sat back for the next hour. Then a contractor met us, took us to dinner at Hogs Breath, then dropped us at the casino where we ran into some colleagues from Sydney. More beers. It is a great place but refreshing I am not sure. I was knackered after 3 days.

They have a national lottery here every 2 weeks. Part of that is they the old numbers racket. You get a 6 digit number and if that gets up you win about 3 million baht which is about 125K AUD but enough to comfortably buy a house and a car and some change. They also have a 2 number draw at the end with seperate numbers and if they are the last numbers on your ticket you win about 125 dollars. This for about 3 bucks. The girlfriend pestered me on monday night what numbers I think. They are already numbered and you pick what you want or what is left. I ahd a good day watching the balloon heads getting belted by us and full of ink I said get number 46. Mason Cox. Watching the soccer today and draw comes through. Number 46. That pays our electricity, water, internet and TV for the month. Thanks Mason.

Daughter messaged me this morning wanting to borrow my removalists trolly to get her washing machine out of storage. She'd agree to lend it to someone while she's overseas until she gets a new place.

When she got here, we had a quick chat. Trolley would fit in her car, washing machine would fit, but not both. Plus the washer was right at the back of the unit, no way was she getting it out alone.

So I went with her, we cleared a bit of a path way and I channelled my 30's by dead lifting the washing machine straight up our of it's spot to shoulder height and carrying it out. Very impressed with myself.

I've been doing regular walking and weights sessions for the past few weeks, so that obviously helped, but after 9 holes of golf this morning I was already feeling a bit stiff, I think I'm going to be struggling tomorrow.

I have a lot Germans living around me. And English.A few Aussies. The Huns gave it to us over losing to France. They didn't laugh tonight (this morning) when me and a couple of poms were dancing around the bar singing La Cacaracha. At least the poms agreed the Frogs cheated. Its been fun.

hehehe!

im happy because i just finished a pilates tape! seriously since we got off the plane its been one thing after another! got home at 11am tues to the news an old friend passed away while i was away, and the heater playing up! managed to fix the heater, wed i sat in my chair to start a huge pile of paperwork and my back went crack, seriously felt like id snapped in 2. did some work kneeling and went to the physio, turns out it was tight hip joints. bloody agony. thursday went to the strangest funeral ever, and friday took my MIL for a chest scan, she has been coughing and they thought she might have a clot. so she forgot the paperwork, but i got it faxed, dropped her off and parked 100 metres away. they said its ok, theres no clot, ok then so back to the car, i get 3/4 of the way and She was collapsing on me, breathless, eyes bulging, it was freezing, and spitting, i got her to the car, and she calmed down a bit, i said i think i should take you to emergency, shes like, no im fine. so i rang hubbys sister and told her keep that doctors appointment this arvo, and told her i wouldnt leave her alone. just made it to the physio, and get home to my SIL, my MIL cancer has spread from breast to liver and lungs. no chemo as she has a pace maker. shes off to the specialist tomorrow, hopefully hormone treatment will help. while she is at the specialist im taking my FIL who has dementia to the eye specialist for a needle in the eye, his vision is nearly gone, i take him once a month. taking junior tomorrow, every time i leave him on the bench to get the car, im scared he will be gone when i get back. spent saturday night with takeaway and the SIL's and 1 remaining BIL working out a plan of attack. ive been subtly sending them info on homes, because obviously now living at home is not going to be viable. spent sunday catching up on paperwork now i can sit & talked to my dad about his growing physical problems! i need a holiday!!

So in the lull before the bad news im expecting from her oncologist, ill enjoy for a day being virtually painfree, and not snowed under! his parents are 88, i know thats a good innings, but gees the end is not going to be nice for either of them.

hope your backs ok now Stui, nothing bloody worse, you just cant escape the pain.

Decided to head up to the house in Toc to check how things are and do a couple of jobs.

Garden is going great, the lawn clippings i used for garden mulch to inhibit weeds has mostly worked, and i got the old wood stove in the kitchen going without setting fire to the house (so far). From the old piece of newspaper in the firebox, it hasn't been lit since 1999, but works finey, chimney draws well and it doesn't smoke out the kitchen although it adds some much needed warmth.

When i had the place restumped, that changed the flow of the gutters so instead of going to a downpipe it just overflowed at the lowest point. So i got up on the ladder today and sure enough the gutter is full of water. Drilled a couple of holes to let it drain, tomorrow I'll cut a bigger hole and relocate the downpipe to that point, which just happens to be right above the laundry drain. :D

Might give the lawns a quick mow once the frost has thawed and, if all goes to plan, get in 9 holes of whack-phuc
