Not true, the real reason was supercoach Francis Bourke. A year after Tony Jewell coached Richmond to a flag they sacked him, and replaced him with Francis. This did not go well with the players, and although Francis coached Richmond to a grand final in his first year, they lost and a fracas of Collingwood 1970 proportions erupted.

First to go was Cloke who went to Collingwood for more money, but they wanted to get rid of him so it was an amicable trade. Next to go was Geoff Raines, and all hell broke loose. Raines was traded to Collingwood for Neil Peart and Wally Lovett, Richmond was furious and vowed revenge, signing the uncontracted Walsh and Annear.

Next to go was Brian Taylor, who couldn't get a game at full forward because of Michael Roach and Jim Jess amongst others. Richmond was glad to see him go, until they discovered that Roach had a long term injury and suddenly wanted Taylor back. Again they swore revenge on Collingwood, for little result.

During this time they discovered that supercoach Francis Bourke couldn't coach after all, and got rid of him after 2 years. Had he won that grand final, everybody would have stayed and he could have had the job for 10 years. But as Robert E Lee said of General George McLelland:

"he brought our greatest weapon to the battle, he brought himself"

In the long run this might not make any difference to the Clokes but it will give the rest of us some peace.
 AHHH... words of wisdom indeed. ! Good advice Ronnie ol son, but Im not exactly robinson crueso on this issue, im no orphan, have a look at the amount of posts on it, threads are bobbing up everywhere on Cloke. Fans are gnashing teeth over it, stress levels are high, its not just me mate. !
BUT, a cuppa does sound nice, and a timtam, think its a bit early for a chivas.
If he stays, he stays. If he goes, he goes. Acres of bandwidth of angst about it won't make an iota of difference to the final outcome.
Pretty much how I feel too. What will be will be. The club will be all over looking after what's best for the whole list, not just what's best for Trav.

To be perfectly honest, I think Travis is adopted.
C'mon, have a look at his head. Whack a mo on that and he's his old man.

Cameron on the other hand..... :?

This is such a nothing statement - what are you really trying to say? And how is it at all relevant? Just pissing in the wind.

Tonight I feel more secure then ever that Travis will re-sign with the next few weeks.

Think about what has transpired today;

1. Cloke does a modelling shoot for a new personal sponsor
2. Even David Cloke admits the two parties are very close to a deal being done.
3. Trav refuses to talk about his contract to the media today (he's basically sick of it all).

He will sign before he play West Coast, you can quote me on that. :D

Caro is correct in that if Trav's old man is ringing around to get him a club, he would be hearing about it all day and night. How stressful would that be?

"Trav, I spoke to Richmond, Dees, Freeo, bla bla bla bla bla".

If David instead concentrated on being a dad and they used a real manger, Trav wouldn't need to hear about it till the deals were on the table and ready to sign.

Let the guy play footy with his mates and leave the deals to the professionals.

OK, my prediction is a $3 million deal over 4 years.

It's about $1 million less than he would be worth on the open market, but he'll take it because he's at the best club in the land, and he knows it. Lock it in Eddie.

Almost right. but Cloke did not go Collingwood solely for the money. Bourke refused to play him at Centre Half Forward and in the end they fell out completely. Raines went to Collingwood for more money.

Regardless of what you may think of David Cloke's role managing Travis, as a player Cloke gave 100% to both his clubs. He left Richmond because of Bourke's coaching and he returned to Richmond after Matthews sacked him at Collingwood. I think we got terrific value from him as a player in the eighties and we have done pretty well out of his youngest son.

Yes, to Fremantle for 4 players, 2 Four 'n' Twenty Pies, a bag of skittles.

Fremantle gain Travis Cloke, David Cloke, and Billy Morrison.

Ummm... if yu are referring to his last contract, it was nowhere near the saga this one is, not as long as this and not so much media on it as its is now. This is way bigger, I have heard it talked about yesterday on 3 different media outlets. :?
