I think I can speak for everyone when I say thank f#ck we won.
We were coming off a hard loss at the Gabba where the surface is so bad we were practically running over rocks and then come down to play at a ground we have never been strong at to face off against a team about as good as the one we lost to fairly nastily last week.
Yes the last quarter fade out was not fun for anyone, but considering the fact that losing tonight would have left us 3 down on the trot I am pretty bloody delighted with the result.
By 10 points or fifty the 4 points go to us. And if they exposed weaknesses we can work on while we were beating them, then good, we should thank them for their generosity.

I'm happy. We needed a win. I think we're coming out of a form slump and today the intensity was almost back to what it was before. We controlled the game and don't think the Bulldogs quick goals in open play mean we are only 10 points better than them. When the game needed to be won we smashed them again.
I think we can win a few in a row now. All that's lacking is four quarters of full intensity. The rest of the season looks bright. We have only one game left at Docklands against West Coast. Besides our visits to our two favourite interstate venues, Adelaide and Sydney, the rest of our matches are at the MCG. We are yet to play our bunny, Sydney, Port who look shot and the bottom three teams: West Coast, Adelaide and Richmond. We have had the hardest draw of all the top eight. We have played ten one of the top eleven teams including the Bulldogs twice. The Bulldogs are yet to play, Geelong, Freo or Carlton. Carlton haven't played Freo or the Bulldogs.
We have set ourselves up for a possible 1-2 finish. 17 or 16 wins might do it. If we can win next week we will be one game and % ahead of 4th place.

Don't let the Dogs suck you in like they do the media. For nearly 3 seasons they've put in these 4th quarter runs to con us into thinking they are a free flowing high scoring team. All it proves is that they can play good football when the sting is out of the game. The net result of their two 'comebacks' vs Collingwood? Two Collingwood wins.

How did you know it stands for Tossa? Who have you been talking to?mudlark wrote:Sorry mate but the big T must stand for TOSSA!! and I see your mate defender agreeing with you even though it's through "whatsisname" and that only galvinises my belief. We WON.!!1 AGAIN against the pre season premiership faves.Get a Ferk9in life man. There is 2 teams out there and both have more than a 100 years of pride and tradition,so don't give the shit that it was a lucky win.We Won so be happy about it. 2nd on the ladder.Big T wrote:Feels like a loss. We are an easy side to beat once teams work us out.
68 inside 50's for 17 goals. 3 of those came from key forwards, 1 from Cloke - that's 1 goal in 3 weeks?
A lot to consider for the second half of the season. Reckon we are not a genuine contender, forward line very average and backline easily exposed when the heat is on.
Fair call mudlark, broke my own rule of trying not to post straight after a game.
But a premiership feels a fair way off. And the 'pre-season faves', give me a break, only a lunatic would believe that for the Dogs, purely media driven.
But fair call, we should be happy to be second etc.

I was a little high on a couple of bottles of McClarenvale cab sav and was feeling OK about the win and was a little annoyed at the negativity so I apologise for the harsh comment as it is a new day, albeit with a heavy head.Big T wrote:How did you know it stands for Tossa? I've seen this from the dogs on many occasions and who can forget the the day a few years ago when they actually overhauled an 8 goal lead in the last qtr and beat us by 2 goals .On the second look at the game I thought we had it under control and a few of our efforts to kick a goal in the last qtr showed we still had the method but the execution was poor!!AND some abysmal umpiring decisions How bad can these pricks get? Take the win ,sitting second, focus on destroying the Ds next week and go to the break 9-3 with a relatively good home run.

I have to agree with this. I counted 4 times yesterday where he was caught completely out of position. I really like Maxy, but that is something he is going to have to improve quickly.woftam wrote:Unfortunately our skipper has been found wanting man on man in the last few weeks. I reckon between Hall, Minson & Lake he had about 5 or 6 kicked on him today. He needs to do a lot better than that.

Re: was I the only one?
No, I didn't feel that happy at the end of the game. I was dissapointed we didn't go on with it after the great performance early in the game.WarrenerraW wrote:was I the only one not to get excited by that win tonight? i found it difficult to even clap at the end of it. very lucky tonight to get away with that.
A win is a win, but we outclassed them for the majority of the match (despite the umpiring from 'Venus' Chamberlain), and it really should have been a blow out.
Oh well, hopefully we'll learn something from it.

Maxwell has never been an accountable Key position defender, he cannot man up on smalls or mediums either,so what is his position? the amount of times i have seen Malthouse shift him around on different opponents as if he is trying to hide him is a joke, he may be a great leader off the field but i have not seen many games won other than on the field when you need genuine leadership.

I love Harry, but he only gets away with that space / opportunity due to his hard run off the backline. Move him and they would read him like a book IMOrobevpau1 wrote:About time we moved Harry to CHF and Travis CHB?
But seriously, I virtually have a man crush on him - so that is not neggative, just realistic.
I believe:
My mighty Pies will win more than they lose,,
That supporters should do just that ... support,,
My stomach is infact a Pie warmer: just got to work out how to get them back out!

Living away from Melbourne and rarely seeing a game live for years has an impact as a supporter, I reckon it makes me more cynical and generally feeling like we will lose no matter how far in front we are, and that is probably a function of the way the game is televised or broadcast.
When I was in Melbourne and going every week, being able to see the whole ground, I was far more positive and confident...

Harry, and Didak were fantastic early. I love Harry's long bomb goals, it pumps up the team and the crowd.
Daisy was fantastic again, in the last few minutes I think he was the difference. He put his body on the line more the once to repel an attack, he is turning into a bloody good player.
Leon, great game, but I'll reserve any further comment until we see some consistent performance. Though, it is great to see him smiling again.
Presti, fantastic work on Hall. I think Hall only kicked one goal on him, with the rest being kicked on Maxwell? We definitely needed to make a move there, maybe Leroy..I'm not sure, but we definitely need to make a change and we didn't.
Reid was good, and is getting better. I like the look of him down back.
Swan was great, and I thought Ball was for most of the match too, I just wish he'd finish off some of his work. Though, we know his not the greatest kick in the world.
Wellingham, great game. He could have easily had 4-5 goals, but missed a couple of sitters.
The real negative me was the way we finished the game. I thought we were gone at 20 minutes on the clock, it just didn't look like we were going to stop their run. They were unbelievably desperate for the ball in that last quarter, and it shows what can happen when you're caught napping.
I'll take the win, but hope we can improve on it next week.

Dogs are predicatble, come the last quarter they weren't predictable and they came back into the game. You can't let a team get 48 points in front and then expect to win in one quarter thus being the last. Our players looked tired and now get a 7 day break.
We got the four points as we are the better team. It should have been ten goals though.
