Absolutely correct, and yet I'm also certain that if it was Taz in the position of Hargreaves and any other non-Collingwood player in Trav's position, a free kick would have been paid.
Don't doubt that for a minute but still doesn't alter the fact that it shouldn't be paid.

There used to be this thing called "incidental contact"......... It is (apparently) still a contact sport I think.
Exactly.
I'll remind myself of that when one of the Selwood brothers gets another of their celebrated frees for high contact.

It is the consistency aspect that concerns me most. The game is much "softer" than it use to be and if they are going to apply the rules of the game in this manner it should be done both ends of the field. I do not believe this occurred on Friday night.

Re: UMPIRE STUFF UPS EXPLAINED

If Collingwood were paid a 50/50 free kick that gave them victory over Carlton in a grand final it would be declared by every media commentator and public official from here to timbuktu as a scandal and outrage, there would be an inquisition, umpires would be named and shamed, probably hung, it would be replayed on every kind of media forever and a day until a rematch was called - which would then be called - and the umps would favour the blues in the rematch and they'd win - and another premiership would be stolen from the Pies.

think I'm jaded much?

Apart from fasolos 50 metre penalty at the death, this was another shocking display of one sided umpiring .

Two sets of rules in the games we play.

Fasolos 50 was a blatant and correct decision.
I'm wondering what travis has to do to get some free kicks. if he stopped swearing st the umpires it would probably help.

Good luck getting the AFL to respond.

Apart from the continual mauling Cloke gets, the thing that really got to me last night was Geelong being paid marks for dinky little 10 metre passes in their defense. We had to kick the ball 30 metres to get paid or it was play on.

Geelong supporters can complain all they want but that free was to make up for the shit one they gave Stevie Johnson - who was clearly about to play on!

The only difference is that ours was in the right spot - GOAL! :D

Exactly. I can't believe so many people are complaining about that. He motioned to handball but he didn't move off his line at all and he got tackled. How is that not 50? Last night, we actually had a good run of it. For all that we complain about Cloke and Dawes being mauled, that was nothing compared to what Hawkins was copping, and I don't think he got a single free kick. Good to get the rub of the green for once. The Bulldogs game was about the most infuriated I've ever been at the umpires. It bordered on blatant cheating.

Have to agree that the umpiring was not as bad in this match as our other games this year... but Faz's 50 won't make up for the Bulldogs game and the fact that we lost the free kick count again. I'd still be interested to know the stats on where our free kicks are given compared to other teams...

+1

Within 10 seconds, we had a short pass inside F50 waived off, then Geelong passed a kick shorter and were paid the mark.

As a paid up member, I demand we go to the AFL to seek clarification. Just watched the replay, and the amount of times our forwards have their guernsey held is beyond a joke.

I have sent two emails to the AFL Umpiring Department seeking an explanation on rules; once after the Bulldogs game and once after the Essendon game. A response was received from a 'receptionist' I think that it had been passed on to the Department. They must get thousands of emails so I don't expect a response but it felt good sending it!

Ffs...I nearly self-imolated when ours was called not 15 (was closer to 20) costing us a shot on goal and then in the next passage of play theirs was paid for travelling a pissy 10m if that. Aside from a couple of other howlers though agree we got the rub for a change. Some of the kicks Hawking missed out on were laughable.
