So sad and so young at just 22. Devastating for his family and close friends, and such a shock for everyone including supporters of both Clubs.

RIP John McCarthy

Very sad news, with his family's permission we should be wearing black armbands next weekend.

RIP John McCarthy.

Shocking news. It was one of those wtf moments when you first hear it, like the 9/11 disaster, you think to yourself "Did I hear that right?".

RIP JMac

What an awful month it's been for the football community with first Merv Neagle and now John McCarthy's loss.

We all get parochial about the club and talk of hating clubs/players but something like this just hammers home that it is just a game and should be treated and enjoyed as such, it isn't life and death.

Let's honour the memory of this ex-Pie this weekend by recognising his contribution to Collingwood and Port and win or lose also let our own boys know that we appreciate their efforts. Too often we forget to do so (I know I definately do).

It's such a sad day and my sympathy goes out to his family, friends, teammates and ex-teammates and all who appreciated John McCarthy's efforts.

Rest in peace John.

Just gutted. Never wanted to get rid of him, but was stoked when he made a go of it at Port.

I only hope the boys will honour his memory by showing the same level of commitment and attack the ball that JMac showed in his all too few games with us.

Just gutted

Way too young, only 22 and by all accounts a ripping young bloke.

Condolences to friends and family.
