Post match. Pies pip Tigers in thriller. All comments please

One thing confused me no end last night. Umpires calling play on after a mark. It appeared from watching at home that all the Pies had to do was look sideways and the umpires were calling play on after a mark, which resulted in a few rushed kicks that lead to turnovers. Whereas Vickery was able to creep around 5m from the mark and an umpire run in from nowhere to reset him after he had already started to run in. Mind you he had already stuttered and looked to pass it off beforehand.

Yes. All night I was bemoaning our lack of footy smarts and poor decision making. But when it was there to be won Darcy did the smart thing and kicked it to the hot spot rather than just blazing away.PyreneesPie wrote:Absolutely agree.yin-YANG wrote:we need to defend better and go man on man rather than zone so much when the zone is being sliced up,
Geez, could watch those last 20 seconds a thousand times over. The maturity of Darcy to set it up in front of goal...well done young man. You are going to be a star! Then the super quick reactions of Grundy.... pretty good for a ruckman!

this wasn't lost on me either. we only had to take a step and "play on". vickery was given all night to decide what he wanted to do and when it didn't look like a good option he was given another chance.Rick wrote:One thing confused me no end last night. Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle.

Just watched the game again (god I love IQ Foxtel) a few things really stood out to me
Gault will be a good player one day he's biggest fault is he has no body and gets bumped off it too easily and he is so nervous it's scary. Think he needs to go get some confidence in the seconds. His skills need to improve dramatically
Langdon don't know where he 2014/15 form has gone but wow he's off the boil. He's playing so lose and getting caught out on miss matches on often it's unbelievable
Caff love your efforts mate but your lose of pace is very noticeable. Need a few games in the seconds to get your match fitness up
Our backline structure is appalling. We take our best player and skipper put him back and still doesn't help. As good as Pendles is he isn't a HBF. Reid & Brown will form a good partnership given some game time together we just need 1 more experienced head back there. Moving Langdon forward late wasn't a bad move actually showed their coach was actually watching the game he kicked a goal and could have and should have kicked another. Maybe we use Varcoe at HBF his speed and ball use would be an advantage and put Pendles back in the middle to be our general there.
On our midfield there trying there guys out but lack composure. Treloar is a beaut and Adams Crisp DeGoey Greenwood all add to it. I think Pendles being in the coal face will give the boys more confidence and also if we start winning the clearances or at least slowing down the ball clearing the contest will take some pressure off our back line
Forwards did OK. Cloke showed signs he still has what it takes and we looked the most dangerous when he went on long searching leads and turned quickly and unleashed that booming big left boot. Fasalo had a break out game. If he continues this same work ethic not having Elliott doesn't seem as world ending. Moore has courage a leap and good skill for a big man. He's raw but keeps trying which is all you can ask from a kid
Overall I'm happy we won but the win might masked some big issues we have. Hopefully we add Varcoe soon. Gault needs some time out and Caff also. Add Varcoe Sidey Howe to the side will help.
4 points is great and we need to build off that and keep improving

I don't disagree with any of that.qldmagpie67 wrote:Just watched the game again (god I love IQ Foxtel) a few things really stood out to me

You can't polish a turd and that performance last night really isn't going to get us in the 8.
We have a lot to improve in the next 21 rounds if we are to make the eight.
Yes we got the win, be happy with that, but it's back to the drawing board now.

They had control of the game for longer periods than us but were unable to translate that into goals at crucial periods. They hit the post numerous times didn't they?
To be honest both sides looked ordinary to me for most of the night.
While our effort was much improved if we played Sydney again last night we still would have got hammered by over 10 goals IMO.
