Poor old Carlton.

They finally get a good coach and look what they've done to him.

Made a good decision to go to Preston today. Beautiful day, big frowd, lots of Black and White, ground in great condition and an impressive Collingwood team which looked very well organised. Striking similarity with the second quarter on Friday night in the pattern of play across all four quarters. Lots to like regardless of the scoreboard. Stui Magpie's post is spot on about the players. Daicos and Brown will go the distance. Gave me a little more confidence about the future. A little surprised at the improvement from some of what I saw during the practice matches. A bigger AFL presence true but it seemed to be the case that the whole was suddenly bigger than the parts. With the Pies having kicked 20 odd goals before the end of the third quarter I was wondering what was wrong with the Blues but their skill level wasn't that bad, just comprehensively outplayed. They had a strong AFL list presence too from what I can gather.

Not since the great St Kilda teams of the late 70s and early 80s.
Yes I was there that day at Vic Park.

As I recall the scores were:

31:21: 207
3:11: 29

Think it may have been the first game of one Peter Daicos.
I checked collingwood sides have only gone over 200 twice. In 1979 and 1980 both against stkilda. Not sure about current vfl side but I do not remember them ever going over 200 before.

We also scored 200 against Essendon at Victoria Park in the early 70s. Three of my best days at the footy.

DeGoey is ready to go. He is explosive, worked hard and played a team game. Watching him rip the ball out of packs and just explode forward with a burst of acceleration was great.

Fas and Billy looked like Fas and Billy. See no reason why they shouldn't be available for selection and back in the team.

Mayne seems to have re-gained a yard of pace and his decision making. Seemed to be focused on playing as a distributer, almost every time he got the ball he was very quick with hands or feet to give off to (mostly) advantage. I think others are ahead of him but could still play a role if needed.

Daicos is silk.

Tyler Brown is smooth. Very good overhead, excellent by foot, good decision making, reads the play beautifully and just glides over the ground. Pencil him in as a wing once he puts some muscle on.

Wills is a beast at stoppages, as is Sier but Wills is ahead of him at the moment. He is also a thumping straight kick and near key position in size. Only thing I think he needs to work on to get regular AFL time is to be quicker to offload the ball by hand when barging through bodies.

Lynch is a big unit and works hard. Lot of potential there.

McClarty is not a ruckman, but shows some potential as a KPP.

Blair is a fox terrier who thinks he's a Rottweiler. I admire his effort and work ethic but his brain keeps writing cheques his body can't cash. Leave in the VFL.

That's about it. Good to see Grundy, Aish and a couple of others up in the grandstand watching the game. Bucks was having a good chat with the coach as they were heading downstairs at half time and all seemed positive.

Apologies to WPT, I didn't see the message til I got home.
Thanks Stui and Bat. I came on this morning and this was the first thing I looked for. Good reading all round.
Cheers

When do the stats appear, I thought DeGoey was clearly BOG with guessing 30+ possies and 4 goals. Blairy Snr was good, but everyone was good! He still makes some Blairy errors like trying to baulk past multiple opponents and getting nabbed every time.

Rupert is a truck and clearance/tackling machine, thought he was next best and he had it in for Nick Graham (who has an uncanny knack of hitting blokes in the crowd with his kicks).

Agree with the Tyler Brown comment he does look smooth and great height just needs some bulk, and I love Daicos Captain Smoooooth!

Oxley has no calf muscles, he stood next to Tyler at qtr time and his calves were half the size of the 18 yo's??!!

It can only be a good thing DTM if Mayne continues putting up these types of performances at VFL level.

If he does he mightn't be finished at senior level just yet (he's played some good AFL football over the years) and at the very least keeps those in the 22 honest.

Young Daicos put up some great numbers.

30 disposals of which 24 were kicks, 9 marks and a couple of goals.

Get excited.
