IF he does come to us, and we do need a bit of mongrel in our side, we lack a mongrel , I hope we can call him JAKE THE SNAKE. in honour of of the wrestler from the WWF, all those yrs ago, Jake, the snake, Roberts. LOL

One thing we don't lack is mongrel. We're a side that scores from pressure and turnover, that's our DNA. McCreery, Maynard, JDG and Schultz all have mongrel in them.

^ Yes, there’s a marked difference between “mongrel” and “arsehole”.

@Pies4shaw The breakdown of goals is interesting but I suppose for comparison we breakdown our existing forwards? Membrey is good but at 6ft 2 he is about 2 inches shorter than the bare minimum standard for todays key forwards. Mihocek, Cox and McStay are all injury prone at present which at times has left us fishing Johnson or Kreuger out of the magoos with mixed results at best.

What are the alternative options in this years trade and draft period?

Do nothing because Stringer flatters to deceive. It isn’t compulsory to trade in a loser because Essendon doesn’t want him.

That's understood but that attitude may condemn us to a slow decline in the 18 team era that also has a diluted talent pool to draw from.

1. We do nothing and possibly bottom out next year and draw some good draft picks.
2. Several veterans become demotivated and retire at the same time risking an extended stay in the bottom 4.
3. Maybe we overachieve and sneak into the 8 after a long pre-season but with an old list the odds of improving in 2026 are not good.

More variables I am certain and by all means challenge any of the points.

Fair enough but what is his alternative solution?

True, but I was more referring to a junk yard dog type mongrel, aka Pants Millane, Dennis Banks, Craig Kelly, those lads had mongrel too burn. :P

Sam Edmund on SEN just said put a line through us as a destination for Stringer.

Yep, Collingwood have confirmed that Stringer will not be joining the club.

Close thread.

^^ further evidence of the nonsense the Journos come up with. Edmund at SEN says definitely a no, Barrett reckons "there are some within the club that want him" and therefore its an active watch... (quoting him from the article on SEN re: the upcoming trade season).

Barrett and Twomey make an interesting point the Bombers currently have very little draft capital. They have two picks only and must find the draft points to fit in Kako as a small forward who could have a bid come as early as #9 or #10.
They will be looking to trade out players to improve their draft hand. It might yet get to the stage where the trade required to release Stringer to another club is simply to good to refuse. With that in mind, if I was Collingwood, I wouldn’t be showing much interest in him publicly either. There’s a big difference between the Bombers asking for #25 and ultimately letting him go for pick 40 odd, so I’m not sure this door has totally locked shut just yet.

Yes I heard the Stringer thing is back on. But I feel like it'll be a no from here if not everyone at the club is convinced.

Going back a few pages; Dom Brew ended up romping in the JJ Liston trophy. I'll be interested to see if he finds a home or not.
