From the ABC blog, reporting from the new NSW Premier's "show and tell time" 9 am presser:
NSW records 587 new local cases
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard delivered the news with this disclaimer:
"The numbers are continuing to go down. We cannot, though ... we mustn't take this very granted."
And, in case you're interested, that was from 112,186 test results processed yesterday.

Obviously vaccinations work.
In other good news, some common sense has been applied and the border between NSW and Victoria relaxed.
Where previously the whole state was an extreme zone, which was ridiculous, most of the state is now orange with just parts of Sydney and ACT Red zones.
So if you're in an orange zone in NSW and haven't been to a red zone for 14 days you can get a permit to enter Vic , you just have to get tested and isolate at home til you get a negative.

Apparently a surge in hospitalisations in Victoria overnight. Had to be expected with spiraling case numbers.
Friend of a work colleague has tested positive, tested a few days ago was negative, thought they just had a cold then completely lost their sense of smell. Completely. Stuff that others left the room to get away from, they had their face basically in it and could smell nothing.
Fully vaccinated so hoping for the best.
Spoke to my son today, he got the Pfizer on Sunday. He didn't want to get it but his work said no jab no job so he did and has been crook for 4 days. Missed 2 days of work, back now but feeling shit. I just told him that it's better than how Covid would have made him feel

NSW numbers from SMH
It will be interesting to see what happens to case numbers when they start opening up with high vaccination rates.
90% of eligible people will have had their first shot tomorrow,70% already fully vaxxed and stuff starts opening up from Monday, 10 more days and 80% fully vaxxed. The state has reported 646 new cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths.
NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said 856 coronavirus patients are in the state’s hospital and 170 people are in intensive care. Of those, 75 require ventilation.
Dr Chant said two of those who died were aged in their 50s, one in their 60s, four in their 70s, and four in their 80s.
Seven of them were not vaccinated, three had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and one had received two doses.

It might not be such a bad call because the spike will abate by Christmas. The spike tends to be about a month before things start coming down again.stui magpie wrote:NSW numbers from SMH

If Victoria opens up in late November, the peak will happen at Christmas.

Look at the UK, they had that huge spike after re-opening but their vaxx rates were lower.
NSW is pretty much in the same level as the UK is now. The UK now has around 90% of over 16s with at least 1 shot and 82% fully vaxxed but they've been basically restriction free for a while.
