Very good small forward, smart at reading the play, good kick for goal.

His disposal to leading forwards (at full apce) was impeccable.

Something he must have applied more to at Port - most Port players are very well skill drilled.

Taken from right under our noses at the Gull

Poor oversight - but move one.

Another great reason to keep Tex because he will be yet another player to embarrass us if we let him go now.

Maybe people should do some research before they post!!

As has been stated, he wasn't even on out list, and hasn't been for several years. He was below par when he was at the Pies, and still isn't all that flash. IIRC Carra had a better return than Mahoney this year. Before the last two weeks, Mahoney had only kicked 16 goals for the season. Hell yeah, that's a really good return....or maybe not. I think he was even dropped a few times this year.

No mistake was made back when he was delisted (traded). He even had a second chance at the Doggies, and they delisted him, before he went and played for Williamstown. He is a very good VFL player, and an average AFL player. Played well yesterday though. One or two good games does not make a career, however.

Josh was a shocking kick at Collingwood. He ranked up there with James Manson.

When he started playing for the Dogs I distinctly remember how they improved his kicking 10 fold.

Funny how we still have the same problem - we cannot correct anyones kicking.

Yep, trade week late 1998. I remember hearing that on the radio at work and the high-5's went around all the magpie supporters! How sour a serving of shit-pie now tastes.
Mahoney used to wear a helmet when he played for us. From the Vic Park outer, we often wondered why? To protect his brain? No, he didn't have one we assumed - judging by the amount of times he turned the ball over to the opposition. We used to feel crook whenever he got his hands on the ball, same feelings Patto gave us. Josh's endeavor was credible, but execution poor. Perhaps that helmet restricted his periferal vision. Perhaps his disposal was as bad as anybody's at the club in 1998.
Ah well, good on him for improving himself and ressurecting his career.

We got more out of Lane than the Bulldogs got out of Mahoney..... yes he's a good player now, but it wasn't really a mistake to draft him, as it seems it would have taken him a few years to improve anyway. The only thing that we can take from this is that it may not be such a bad option to look at players playing well for VFL clubs who have already had a go in the AFL.

A good player with one of the biggest hearts in tge game. Love seeing him play and do well, as he is one of those whole-hearted footballers who give their best, and play with immense courage.

Its not our fault (really) that we didn't secure him in 2003/2004. 14 other clubs didn't. Port took a punt, and it paid off. He is not a great footballer, but a very good one.

How is 16 goals (prior to his last two games) possibly a good return for a forward?

Can someone enlighten me on this?
He was on our list in I think it was 1999, in 2000 he went to the Bulldogs, and after that he ended up at Williamstown.

He's nothing special.

Its all good mate, he only bobs up for 1 game in every 10 to do something good, so he would of been a waste on our list, but he would be handy in a pocket i guess, but our forward line is already pretty full down there.

Ther kid was crap ten years ago. He is now a man, and has improved his game alot while in the VFL.

Yup a great story, good on him!

I believe he had injury probs early in his playing days, while with us. Was always a goer tho.
