It was disappointing that we couldn't have at least grabbed an experienced ruckman but I thought this was interesting in today's paper:

"Hard to believe the Brisbane rabble that finished last in 1998 comprised 18 of this year's premiership side."

That's proof that you don't need to recruit a huge number of big-name (and highly paid) players to be successful. The comment above could easily relate to the Pies in the very near future (except for the rabble bit!).

We have a talented, hungry team of young guys who want to taste not only finals, but grand final victories so I'm still looking forward to a big 2002!

GO PIES!

Marg

Most of you know I would have loved to get Porter, and Spider would have been good as well.
I'm not upset at not trading as when we look at our progressing list we have much to look forward to.
The hot rumour yesterday was that Everitt was signed, sealed and delivered. But of course the Saints wanted our first 3 picks. Look at North a few years ago when they traded picks for players. Now they are relying on old troopers and have no young guns coming through the ranks. I believe that we can cultivate our youngsters and turn them into Premiership material as well as looking to the future by drafting more young guns.
This is the plan and it bore fruit at essenscum, we of course shall do better. We have a better coach, a better Prez and better supporters!

Hold on tight, it's the ride of our lives!

I think you can manage your list with one season every 7 0r 8 years where you trade away your draft choices. You can't do it consistantly because it will kill you in the end.

It is difficult to rectify deficiencies in personal via the draft because if try for a position you may pass up a future champion because you already had a CHF (for eg). This hapenned to us in the 90's. We chased a CHF and got duds (with respect to McCartney who is servicable). In the mean time we passed a truch load of good on ballers etc because we had "plenty".

All I am saying is that we could have done with oput draft choices this year to get Spider or Porter etc given oour youth and glarring short term need. That is, unless McKee is a lot better than I give him credit for.

I'm sure the people in charge of the trading players to collingwood know what they r doing. Sure, we need a ruckman but have faith in what the recruiting staff r doing. Maybe the other clubs were just asking to much.

keep faith in the pies

One of tonights news services reported that Misiti may be destined for the pre-season draft. Apparently with the bombers being unable to off load Moorcroft they may not have room under their salary cap for Misiti.

They said on the news last night that Collingwood and Essenscum wanted more time to do a trade for Misiti but the AFL said no. It has been pretty much agreed on this list that we have enough midfielders and need a CHB and ruckman. It looks like Collingwood wasted all its time on the Misiti deal and didn't spend much time trying to get anyone else. Maybe Nicks BB should take over running the club. Joffa for Prez. Rohan for Public Relations Officer. LOL
