Still need help? Sorry been pretty busy of late, who said uni holidays and actual holidays, been working non stop really.
The programs I use are:
Gordian Knot: The program which pretty much orders the rest of the happenings.. Can be downloaded from :
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gord ... e?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gord ... e?download
http://www.dvd2dvd.org/D2S123B1.zip
You will need all 3.
To set up Gordian Knot with good settings see http://www.doom9.org/
--> http://www.doom9.org/newbie_section.htm
--> http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm
--> http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=92089
(Just take a bit of time and read as it's good to have a knowledge base encase something goes wrong)
Open GK --> in the ripping section you will see a 2 step process... RIP the VOB's and Prepare the VOB's
Ripping the VOB's
DVD Decrypter
Allows you to copy your dvd onto your computer as a VOB file.
Preparing the VOB's
ProjectX to demux the file - ie to split the video and audio into separate files ready for encoding.
Open ProjectX and select the MPEG file you wish to demux (ie the VOB file)
Click 'Demux'. This application then splits your video file into Video and Audio components, and saves each as a separate file. .mv2 for Video and .mpa for Audio.
Audio/Video should remain synronised throughout this process.
NOW - On GK you click open (bottom Right)
- Then Click on your project, and make sure you click audio and select your file otherwise you wont have audio behind your video.
Once this is complete you can add file to encoder, and it should start encoding (takes upwards of two hours)
Editing AD's

Mpeg2Schnitt to edit out the ads. This is a German program but the language can be changed to English.
It's the best program I have used to edit out ads, and has no sync issues.
It is a program which is hard to explain however once you have a play around with it, you will work out whats going on. (may find you don't understand some parts in German) Ensure you check the finished product to make sure none of the game is missing.
NOTE - This is not the only way to do it, it's just the way I do it. Once you have set-up GK using the doom9 guide you will never have to do it again. So its really a matter of clicking about 6 or 7 buttons and the job is complete. It may take around 30mins to set p GK.
Hope this is complete enough for you, and sorry i didn't see this thred earlier. Merry Christmas to all.

While we're on the subject, I've got some old video tapes of my kids, taken on a VHS video camera. (assuming it will be analogue not digital).
I want to burn these onto DVD/VCD so I can still play them, and maybe at a future time do some editing and party tricks with them. But for a start, I just want to get them off the tape onto the PC.
My PC has composite AV input and an S-video input as well, so I'll assume (probably a dumb thing to do) that it's capable of capturing with video and convert it without needing an external converter. One way to find out I guess, try.
I also have Windows Movie Maker on the PC, came as part of the software when I bought it. Reading thru the tutorial, it seems like it shouldn't be too hard to capture and then burn to DVD/VCD, but does anyone know of any free software that they think is either easier to use or does a better job (or both)?

Thanks guys, I don't have a DVD recorder, never bothered to get one. I can record FTA TV on the PC by just sticking an ariel in the back and tuning it in.
I'll play with it over the next week when it's too hot to go outside again.

Ta's Member and Jock, after a few false starts where I got no audio and vision that looked like there was vaseline on the lense on full screen, I got something that I can burn to DVD and comes up all right on the 38 inch LCD. Not exactly Hi Def or anything but it works. And I can keep the source data files for ron.
Cheers
