Very sad news indeed, i have fond memories of Jeff, he wore N0. 21. He was a great full back, he kicked it long out of fullback a long, long way, and was a very safe mark, bit like Presti really. Great player, and my sincere condolences to all his family and people who knew him well.

RIP Jeff, very sad news indeed. Prostate cancer is a very insidious disease amongst males. We need to raise awareness of this major mens health issue. This can start with all males 40 or over having an annual test, but also by growing a moustache and support Movember and raising awareness. I would urge all Nicks and Collingwood members to get behind and support initiatives to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia during Movember.

I am very sad to hear this. Jeff was a great player and a lovely gentleman. My daughter Merissa also went to school with his daughter and they were a great family to be around.

For us a second passing as my daughter lost her best friend 10 days ago to a rare disease. Having also my own cancer battle I can imagine what Jeff has been through.

Our condolences from the Lawton family at this time.

Penguin Pie wrote:I remember Jeff Clifton. As I kid in the 70s I used to tune into 3KZ or 3AW to get the teams as they were being announced on a Thursday, and they would always read out Collingwoods as:

"From the backline - O'Callaghan Clifton Gott..."

No computers or internet back then, it was either TV or radio or the papers for your footy news.

He was a very solid defender, but I remember him playing on Peter Hudson in Huddo's "comeback" game in 73? and Huddo kicked 8 on him. We still beat the Hawks however, and Clifton employed the unusual tactic of manning up on Hudson by turning his back on the play and just facing Hudson (didn't work obvioulsy, but it was a big talking point).
Loved that backline!!!!! It's happening to quite a few people I know lately .......... All the best to you Jeff.

Rest in Peace Now! I loved watching you play when I was a kid. Condolances to all family and friends.

Sad day. He was one of my old favourites at Victoria Park playing full back in the tough old days of VFL footy. Solid player and a good mark. RIP.

I am having trouble finding a photo of Jeff online particularly for our younger supporters. Does anyone have a photo of Jeff they could post?
