Vale #42 Darren Millane

Post by NICK THE PIE MAN »

Tommorow, October 7, marks the anniversary of Darren 'Pants' Millane's untimely and tragic death which affected us and the Collingwood Football Club greatly.

The impact that Pants had at Victoria Park was tremendous and his influence still exists at the club.

One more time for you mate.

You were a true champion Pants. I still have alot of memories of the way you played the game and gave your all for our club, even though i was only 7 when you died. I remember your broken thumb in 1990 and i thought 'wow he's tuff'. I was only a kid when you died and whilst i cried with all my family, didn't fully understand the impact you had on our footy clb, but i do now. The world lost a fantastic bloke and an awesome player ad i beleive we would've won another flag with you on the wing. You typified the spirit of Collingwood and what its all about to play for the black and white yet you still knew how to live life to the full. You could teach many of our boys today some valueable lessons.

You'll never be forgotten at Collingwood Dazza, your name will live on long after we're all up there with you. U r a hero and I know you'll always be watching over our great club.

RIP Darren. You're a true legend mate.

NO-ONE CAN PREDICT TO WHAT HEIGHTS YOU CAN SOAR PIEBOYS... NOT EVEN YOU WILL KNOW UNLESS YOU SPREAD YOUR WINGS(AND WE DID).

Forever will we remember Darren Millane. He was the ideal footballer and left a hole that no man at any club will ever fill. It doesn't seem that long ago we were at his funeral, one of the saddest days I can ever recall. Let us never forget him or the great Collingwood man he was.

Would it be a fair comment to say the difference between 1990 and 2002 was Darren Millane?

Darren Millane was a person who packed a lot of living into his 26 years on this earth. He really was a person who would have no regrets - he lived life to the fullest, achieved the highest accolades in his working life (ie. the 1990 GF) and was a genuine and caring guy.

A lot of people know of his 'larrikin' side but few know of his other side - a guy who would go out of his way to help other people. My family and I were on the receiving end of his helpful nature on one occasion. He also took the time to listen to an old lady (my nan) reminisce about the old days - something many young guys are not too fond of doing.

His efforts in the 1990 finals series were inspiring and never to be forgotten - his loss hit the club hard and it took us years to recover.

I will never forget hearing the news of his sudden and tragic death. I had been out the night before and Darren was at two of the venues I was at - we greeted each other in passing (we used to run into each other a lot in those days - the Collingwood boys were real party animals!) but that was all. My friend, who I had been out with the night before, called me in the early hours (around 6 or 7am), to tell me the news. Understandably, I found it difficult to come to terms with the fact that a person who had been so alive just a few hours earlier could now be gone. I cried, my mother cried, my sister cried...then we rang Nan who was overseas in Canada, and she cried also. It felt like a member of our family had passed - and I guess it was a member of our family; our Collingwood family.

RIP Darren
