Yep, loved the tackling, it's always a match winner when we play like that.
A job well done overall, but not really over-excitement-sizzling plus. Great that Jolly's back, Fasolo & Reid get the elephant stamp for their efforts.
The hawks looked dawky. And those colours inyourface toilet colours, eek. Anyways, they got flushed!

Spot on again Monco Matt. Not good enough!Monco Matt wrote:Before the season is out I would just once like to see us rip the oppositions balls off when we have hold of em instead up giving them a tickle.
Did the minimum required to beat a Hawks reserves side, nothing more.....second gear all day.
We had them on toast for most of the second half. They were actually down to two on the bench for most of the second half (as Chance Bateman was subbed out and that Hawks kid got KOed).
7.9 to 7.7 in the second half will only please the sycophants. We seem to have lost the ability to go for the kill. Here was a golden opportunity to put the fear of God into the competition and we let the Scum get the chocolates for the most impressive win of the weekend.
I don't know. It's part and parcel of this season it seems. We get the best and worst of our ability in the one game.
There were plenty of positives.
* Welcome back Darren Jolly. great hit out first up.
* Tarrant is becoming so Presti-like its scary.
* Cloke is taking my breath away every week.
* Leon Davis has such clean hands.
* Ben Reid is the AA CHB whether they recognise it or not!
* Toovey we love you.
* I thought Krakouer showed wonderful tackling pressure today without kicking a goal.
* Luke Ball did what he always does!
* Daisy is far from his best, but he was better.
On the negative side (and we need to clear these up before the finals).
* Time for Sidebottom to have a rest (he's turned into a lazy footballer).
* Our midfield was smashed today (with the exception of Luke Ball). Even more damning when Jolly was doing so well in the ruck contests. Swan is a million miles off his best and Pendlebury drifted in and out of the game. Wellingham ditto. Blair gave us a bit of grunt but seems to have fallen off with his finishing. Sidebottom must be dropped.
* Leigh Brown doesn't do enough.
* Dawes is good for our structure and works hard off the ball for Cloke, but he's back to his early 2009 form. Someone teach him to mark again please. He has to kick goals. Shouldn't be dropped, but it's still not good enough.
* Too many fancy handballs near the boundary line. Kick the bloody thing!
* Too many backward kicks towards the end of quarters. Saving time instead of going for the jugular by kicking goals.
* Harry O. I don't know what to say. He is a mirror of play at the moment. He can do some amazing things but lairises far too much. Too many turnovers and often beaten in the one-on-one contests.
We'll take that win, but there's still a heck of a lot to do if we want to go back-to-back. It was ugly football for far too long today.

Agree - keepings off, means more possessions/goal, therefore poorer efficiency compared to CFC.woftam wrote:If Hawthorn play that game style again, I'll make sure I'm not watching.
Bloody boring game of footy. We were always going to win & they were trying to play keeping's off.
Not sure how poorer efficiency is the game plan to beat us, given the pressure we put on the ball carrier.
Yes there were times when they had 6-8 consecutive uncontested, possession but that just made it easier for us to blockup the back half, so they had no option going forward.
Yes, Rioli, Lewis and Sewell will make a difference but I suspect their game plan is fundementally flawed, and will not stand up in high pressure finals.
We achieved the only acceptable result today against a weakened Hawthorn side so well done pies on that.
In reality our real test will be in two weeks time.
That game will be a must win as to lose would fill the scum with the belief that they can beat us come finals and claim the flag.
Win it and I can almost smell the silverware.

Pretty obvious we don't have much of a rivalry with Hawthorn. For a crowd that big the last 15 minutes was like attending a funeral it was so quiet.
Geezus Hawthorn play a shitful style of football. They're good in the clinches, gave us a run for our money there but once they get their hands on the ball that chip around game style is mind numbing. I was half expecting the crowd to break into song like at a soccer game so they'd have some entertainment after about 5 minutes of their back and forwards chip kicks.
However, just like Geelong's run and carry game, our game plan and pressure buggered them up, forced them into handpasses and sweated on their chipping game and forced errors.
Nice intensity when it counted but we were in cruise control for the second half.

What did your brother think of the game, Emu? Or did he leave before he could tell you what he thought?frankiboy wrote:not the most satisfying win but a win nonetheless. Really thought we should've buried them.
I don't give a crap about their injuries, we had BJ, Didak, Beams, Mcaffer and N. Brown out. Still plenty of upside, I fear them not

No I agree with you Brenny. And you know I've been a big supporter of The Beast.Brenny wrote:Chris Dawes was horrible. If we had a forward in the VFL, I'd say Dawes needs a stint.
There I said it.
Start flaming.
But you'd have to agree it's time for Sidebottom to get a good kick up him bottom as well!
