Maybe we could run Wood through the center like west coast use nuff nuff? or Dawes as an in and under player? fight size with sizethe ru is on fire wrote:Starting Line up:
Cuthbert has been on the blower to his old buddy Salty Malty and has it on good authority that our starting lineup will follow a pretty similar pattern to the "catgate" game
B Swan L. Brown Tarrant
HB Harry Reid Wellers
C Toovey Krakouer Maxwell
HF Shaw Sidey Ball
F Davis Blair Didak
R Jolly BJ Beams
I Cloke Dawes Pendles Fasolo
We have gone in with a top heavy backline to match their forwards, Leigh "Dolly" Brown will once again be gracing full-back with his prescence.
In a masterstroke our centre line will once again feature our clearance specialist Andrew Krakouer, and it's been decided to go with a really small and agile forward line - Dawes and Cloke shall be used as backup rucks or backs and Pendles and Swan will be rotating or double teaming dangerous West Coast goalsneak Nic Natanui.
In addition to these positions we shall also be playing at least one player in the "rooms" position, this is employed to engender panic amongst our supporters and to ensure a loss.

I've seen some bitching about how we have an advantage because the MCG is our home ground (unlike Richmond and Melbourne, who are disadvantaged by being Richmond and Melbourne).
Bearing in mind the precedent set by the Bummers when they renamed the Coventry end at Docklands after a recently retired full-forward now media noise, if indeed the stadium in Yarra Park is Collingwood's home ground, why is it not renamed Victoria Park when we play at home there?
Over to you to follow this through, Mr McGuire. I'm sure it is a concept that would be well-received by the people of Melbourne and their self-appointed representatives in the electronic and printed media, not to mention the ever-supportive administrators and self-appointed custodians of the game and its traditions at the AFL.

Magpies ready for Eagles road rage - Jon Pierik. 5 Sept 2011
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/m ... z1WzXuxYEZ
COLLINGWOOD leader Luke Ball says West Coast's impressive form on the road this season means the Magpies won't have a major advantage at home in Saturday's qualifying final at the MCG.
The Magpies' detailed dossier of the Eagles this season, prepared by opposition analyst Nathan Buckley, is expected to underline three wins in Melbourne, two in Adelaide and one in Brisbane, demonstrating the Eagles have no fear about prevailing on the road.
However, they were crunched by 52 points by the Magpies at the MCG in round 10 - the only meeting between the clubs this season. The Eagles managed just seven goals that afternoon.
''They (Eagles) have shown all year they have won in all corners of the country. Once you are in the finals it doesn't really matter where you play,'' Ball said. ''There is a prize at the end of the day. We expected a pretty fired up and pretty good outfit coming across.''
The Magpies hope to have put Friday night's stunning 96-point loss to Geelong in the ''bin'' by the end of today, ensuring, as Ball notes, there is ''some positive thinking back'' among the players.
They have much to deliberate over. Injuries remain an issue, although the club insists key defender Chris Tarrant (ankle) will play. Skipper Nick Maxwell is confident he will return from a broken thumb. The state of Darren Jolly's knee, an issue for most of the season, again was questioned on Friday night. Jolly was a non-factor and was clearly beaten by a fellow veteran, Brad Ottens. The Magpies will need Jolly to be in mint condition against dynamic Eagles duo Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui.
''I think physically he is pretty good. I think he would admit he didn't have a good night like a lot of us,'' Ball said. ''Since he got back from overseas he has been in pretty good shape.''
The Magpies must decide whether to use fellow specialist ruckman Cameron Wood as Jolly's back-up, or have the more mobile Leigh Brown pinch hit.
Stand-in Magpies skipper Scott Pendlebury believes the extra day of recovery his team has - the Eagles played on Saturday - will be a crucial aid. ''The benefit of finishing on top is we get that one day's extra break, so we have to do everything we can to make sure we get up to play,'' he said.
Ball said the Magpies had attempted to use the clash against the Cats as somewhat of a dress rehearsal for the Eagles. The Eagles boast a tall, powerful and versatile forward line, something he said the Cats also had in the likes of James Podsiadly, Tom Hawkins, Daniel Menzel and Steve Johnson. ''We spoke about that. (Friday night) was preparing for that, similar sort of set ups, so they (Eagles) really don't have many weaknesses I wouldn't have thought,'' Ball said.
The Magpies were hurt by the Cats' willingness to play on at every opportunity and kick long when forward of centre to a one-on-one contest.
The Magpies also uncharacteristically fumbled the ball, particularly after half-time. Even the usually reliable Ball was guilty of this.
Ball, a key factor in the Magpies 2010 premiership, said there was no reason for his teammates to suddenly question their belief. ''We have earned the right to play a qualifying final. We won 20 games this year. That's a good effort,'' he said.
''We just hope it (the loss) is an aberration. If anything it will sharpen our focus a bit. We will have a really strong week on the track and prepare for next Saturday afternoon.''

I hope they're not wearing the same dress next Saturday.

Just easing into the season about now I'd say. Looking forward to seeing how it comes together when it matters and what the rest will throw at us.
Gotta' love the finals. Best time of the year. Anything can and will happen; back-to-back flags are rarely handed out at all let alone on a silver platter.
Caaaaaaaaaaaaarna Pies!

In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

The Jumper, Jack Spain and Brisbane
Was pretty flat on Friday (surprise, surprise), read some of the early analysis on here, and decided against venting. I had watched the game at a mate's house 3 Geel supporters out-numbering 2 Collingwood supporters - 1 Richmond supporter (you've got to feel sorry for those blokes (he actually made the comment that it was 30 years since he had felt they were genuinely in it with a chance). Anyway, when I got home I took the jumper off (lats years iconic match day jumper) and dismissively threw it on the couch, (there had been lots of ribbing that night) and then for some reason, I looked at it a bit longer, and then it hit me: "It is a thing of beauty; it symbolises so much (in my life) so many memories. It stands for something." So I spread it out, stared at it for a few moments, and then started to smile. And i thought of 2 things: Brisbane qualifying final 03, Alan Didak noted once that as Brisbane walked off the G after losing to us, they were jeering Collingwood players, saying they would take us in the GF. To them the QF meant nothing. Second, Jack Spain's post following GF1 last year (the Keep the faith post (if I was vaguely computer literate, I would work out how to copy it here) - it was sensational.
That post sums up how I feel.
Season starts now. We always new it would. You try to manage injuries as best you can. We play an intense style of football, that no one can beat. But I suspect you cant keep that intensity up for 25 games. I have faith in Malthouse, and Buttifant, and in the real all australian midfield (Ball, Pendelbury and Swan). Game on. If i can suggest one thing this week, look at our jumper - rediscover the faith. F... everyone else. Its our destiny now.

Both good questions.burnsy17 wrote:Two questions - Where the hell has our manic forward press gone?
And why didnt we lay any shepards on Friday night?!
Forward press - Do we still have a decent one?
Shepherds - Did not see a single one on Friday night.
They just didn't work for each other. Hopefully that changes now they stakes are higher.
