I don't know much about the QL situation, so a couple of questions:
1. Does he actually want to to come to COLL?
2. Do we have room in our salary cap?
3. And what do we have to do to get the deal done?

I think now that the Cloke deal has dropped, it'll be kids, kids and more kids....
i wouldnt have thought we'd be landing Giles, Caddy, Goddard, Q-Ball or anyone else from another club unless he comes at almost the same price as a first year player!

Martin had a foot injury for a lot of this year apparently, so I compared 2011 years for Q-Stick and Martin:

Summary: Q-Stick a better contested mark and goalkicker, Martin probably a genuine ruckman

burnsy, it is likely we are going to lose a player like Wellingham in order to address issues in our structure. This will free up cap space. We'd probably also de-list Wood and Taz is retiring (he wouldn't have been on much, but it adds up).

If the Big Q demanded more than 300K I'd be surprised. Talk was around a 250K 3-year deal at the Blues wasn't it?
WCE have apparently only offered a one-year deal and no guarantee of senior footy

Yeah good point.... would this seem realistic...?:
Taz - $250K
Wood - $200K
Although it wouldnt surprise me if wood was on a little more
So we could potentially get someone accross at say, $400K a year.
Then there is the Wellingham situation i guess. I'd say he'd be on around $250-$300 at the moment???

Taz was on the veterans so only half of his salary counted.
Wellers apparently got a 3 year deal @ 300 per year in front of him, so 250 - 300 sounds about right

If for example we got Lynch.... is he classified a veteran or does it have to be served at the one club?
ie - will his salary be halved like Taz's??

Stefan Martin turns 26 in November. has played 57 career games and kicked 27 career goals and only playe d7 games this year for 7 goals.
Think that he will be a better option and cheaper than Lynch.
Lynch's game against us in the final showed that he is really a hit and miss player.
Martin at least is younger and will cost us less I suspect.

Lynch would not be eligible for our veterans list, has to be served at the one club.
Also the veterans list rules change next season. The rule that allows half of a veterans salary is no longer.
The new rule is players who have played 10 years at the club (regardless of age) will have approx $112,000 of their salary outside of the cap.
That's why Geelong are able to chase the players they are, as they have 6 players eligible for the vets list, giving them an extra $600k plus.

The Club conceded towards the end of the year that Dawes was inheriting a game because there was no alternative pushing for senior selection.
Perhaps QL is being viewed as that short term alternative for 2013?

Can he defend? Because you can't play him and Dawes in the same team can you?

Nope. That's what I mean by putting pressure on Dawes for 'that' [often referred to as the Leigh Brown roll?] spot.
Just thinking about defending & TLBR, as opposed to QL I'd be happy to see Tarrant go around again & perhaps look at Keeffe as a possible 2nd ruck/forward option?

I think he would be cheap, they were talking around $250k-$300k a year .. and he's unrestricted free agent so get him for nothing basically.
WC only offered him a year so it's really about whether he wants to go to a premiership side, or to the prettyboys scum
