Anyone heard of the 1983 Church Street bombings in South Africa?

While I don't fully agree with Wokko's points I'm inclined to agree with him on the majority of his posts.

yeah as soon as people stop saying RIP but...

its simple, wait til someone is cold before you start trashing their memory. its kinda like going to someones funeral and saying what a prick they were (mind you my old mans funeral could be pretty quiet!)

or - shut up unless you have something nice to add to the RIP bit!

Beware of absurd attempts to control the conversation like this:

From a poster who, in another RIP thread (only this time about someone she didn't like), could write:

fair point, but that was a self confessed murdering thief who only did it for his own benefit, oh I'm sorry, was he smacked when he was a child?

It's all a matter of perspective though, there are some who see Mandela as a murdering criminal, free speech can be a bitch like that but it's better than the alternative. Whenever someone wants to silence dissenting opinion I wonder on their motives. At best it stifles intellectual growth to never be confronted with views you don't like, I'd rather consider and dismiss something than shout down those saying it because next time they'll choose not to speak and all I'll have is an echo of my own voice.

You find negative or critical comments on the dead generally distasteful which I can respect, but it's not like with public figures that people are saying this crap to their family or friends.

^That's simply false; it's not "all a matter of perspective" at all; on the contrary, the moon isn't made of green cheese any more than violent oppression gets to determine the legal boundaries of necessary force.

So that's one false claim and one irrelevant one (a straw man claim pertaining to populist saintliness) you've made on the topic so far; that's what happens when you build a moral edifice on something as untenable as the righteousness of status quo.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Quite so, but then he didn't kill anywhere near as many people as Thatcher (may she rot in seven hells) did, not steal even a tiny fraction of what she took.

(However, as a matter of detail, I fully concur with your remarks about that scumbag Reid. OK, he was only a minor sort of murdering, thieving scum compared with Thatcher, but he was murdering, thieving scum nevertheless and won't be missed in any way.)

Not sure if I'm being Captain Obvious here, but that's a (not particularly great) satirical article.

^ Thread title says 'dead', not 'fat'.
