Also, we must resist the temptation to rush Cloke back in. Leave him out for as long as it takes for him to show he has genuine form and can play like he gives a shit. I want to see 4 or 5 games of great footy from him before he gets a look, this is important.

You do realize we won by 69 points, don't you?You make it sound as if we lost.piedys wrote:Totally. 2nd half outscored by Essendon reserves, not unlike yesterday.Jezza wrote:Relieved to win. The match was won in the first half and after that we simply went through the motions.
Bucks isn't off the hook yet but it's a good win to build from.
Nobody kid yourselves, that was putrid, particularly the last quarter.
Disposal level back to Benny Hill standard we are accustomed to.
Annihilated in the centre again, and cut open like cans of sardines through the middle. Still painful to watch. There was no statement made here by the players, despite what channel Muppet commentators said.
This was our only chance for 2016 to get some percentage back. FAIL.
More pain to come, next week it will start.
And bring Cloke back in Suckley, you arrogant imbecile.
You have merely bought yourself another week, and nothing more.

I thought today was a fairly good effort. I was a bit disappointed to see the intensity drop off in the second half (and to actually lose the last quarter). Buckley didn't look all that happy at the end, and I expect that he would have hated some of the errors that crept in.
But, how often do you see any team keeping that sort of pressure for an entire game? Putting into perspective, had we won every quarter by the same scoreline as the first, we would have been within 10 pts of the biggest winning margin in afl/vfl history (which I believe is 190 pts). Essendrugs have shown that they're not THAT bad so far this year.
So overall, I really can't complain!

A win is a win but we were good in the first half but tried to be fancy and stop working hard in the second half losing 52-59
Some guys played really well and some still stank up the place
Congrats Sidey on the medal I had a couple others in front of you but can't really complain about you winning it
Pendles was tremendous today we looked so much more organised around the ball and that helped our defence
Frost was good today and will need to be equally or better next week against a strong wet toast forward line
Cox well done in game one need you to keep improving
Smithy you had a good game but now show us a great game
Treloar was his usual very good self
Oxley for mine could be leading the Copeland right now been very good all year
Happy to win but we are a long way off a good side yet
Show me something next week to make me believe again

It's obvious after today that Buckley has no frigging idea and the players have given up on him. There was no spirit or energy all day, not even when Cox kicked the opening goal. As for dropping Cloke, this was a disaster. We had no big blokes contesting marks all day. There is no doubt now that Bucks has to go.

What after leading by 76 points at half time? The game is played over 4 quarters, not 2. But hey, still glad we won, but let's show perspective here.doriswilgus wrote:You do realize we won by 69 points, don't you?You make it sound as if we lost.
Yes, the first half was productive, and probably beyond our expectations.
The second half, when Essendon responded, was really nothing short of a shit fest, with putrid disposal, and excessive bludging by the forward line AGAIN.

Has ANYONE?? beaten Essendon by 100 pts yet??? NO!!! This is their biggest loss of the season. WTF are you going on about? Yes we didn't finish off the way we wanted but WE have nearly as many of our run on side out through injury as they have by suspension. Our best side would have won by any margin but JEEZUS H .Give them a freakin break!!! They won by 12 friggin' goals with 2 first game rookies in the bloody side.Culprit wrote:We should have won by more and losing Varcoe slowed our run. Going to miss him for another 3 to 4 weeks. Smith was impressive on debut. Cox was OK and did some great things. He has a crack and for a big bloke he can get the low ball. Happy to win but it was the Bombers and we could have won by 100 plus. Reality next week or we are back in the hunt.
Happy we won as I expected a loss.

The secret to Collingwood success has been revealed for all the world to see.
Any team with Cloke in it fails (just look at our VFL team this weekend).
He is cancer, disliked by the rest of the playing group.
When he's omitted the rest of the team lifts and play to win, put him back in and team spirit is poisoned.

Take the win and hopefully we can build from that and start playing the sort of footy most of us were expecting in 2016.
Injury Gods just keep hitting us hard. Playing the 2nd half 1 down on the bench we did well to break even with the Bumbers after 1/2 time. Losing Varcoe really hurts as he adds pace, run & carry, and experience we desperately need. Broomhead & Goodyear the likely replacements.

I don't think today was a response to crisis. We've been slowly building since our worst game in round 1.What'sinaname wrote:Yep, why does it take us to be in crisis for the players to respond. Just happy to win at the moment
It was a very good win. Sure, only Essendon but that is their biggest loss for the year and the first half was brilliant footy. Mentioned in the pre-game that they won't be as bad as the worst teams in recent seasons as they are not young or inexperienced. They'll be competitive, so that first half was great and certainly better than expected.
For Smith to get as much of the ball as he did on debut is terrific, though he did make a number of mistakes. Cox did a couple of things, enough to show that he's a chance to be an AFL player. Sidebttom's first half was near perfect, Pendlebury back in the middle and back to somewhere near his best.
The big one for me was Adams. This is the Adams we want to see: 36 disposals, 14 of them contested after only 4 last week. Need him in tight winning the ball, not on the outside. Still didn't see enough of him in the centre square, but this was his best game of the season by a mile.
Well done boys!
